San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) Returning Registration for the 2018 event (to be held July 19-22, 2018, with Preview Night on July 18) was held at 9 am (Pacific time) on Saturday, October 28, 2017. While officially the sale began at 9:00 am, based on a 440-person sample of FOCC members, it seemed that no one was getting into the buying window until 9:11 am. At that point, things moved slowly, with people getting in only a few at a time.
Preview Night seemed to sell out very quickly, but 4-Day badges held out for another 26 minutes after Preview Night was gone. This makes it seem as if there were fewer Preview Night badges available this year. This could be because of the people who were involved in the ‘fake Hall H wristbands’ issue on Saturday from last year, all of whom were given Preview Night badges as compensation, or the number of badges being auctioned for charity, or perhaps Comic Con International (CCI) is just cutting down on the number of Preview Night Badges. Regardless, despite the slow movement of people into the buying screen, Preview Night badges went quickly.
Once Saturday had sold out, everything went fast after that, with Friday, Thursday and Sunday (in that order) selling out shortly afterward. Sellout times for badge types were:
Preview Night – 9:23 am
Saturday – 9:49 am
Friday – 9:52 am
Thursday – 10:06 am
Sunday – 10:13 am
For those who were not able to get their desired badges in returning registration, remember that you can try again during open registration, which CCI has promised will be held before the end of the year.
