The last week in TV was nothing short of exceptional with the debut of Black Lightning. And looking ahead to next week it is not short on great offerings. First up is the battle of the pigskin in the AFC and NFC championship games with the winners heading to the final battle for the Iron Throne, I mean Super Bowl.
Sunday evening the Screen Actors Guild Awards takes center stage followed by a two night offering of the new series titled The Alienist. The series, featuring Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans, takes place in the 19th century and centers on a crime reporter, a headstrong secretary determined to become the city’s first female police detective, and a brilliant and obsessive “Alienist” in the controversial new field of treating mental pathologies, as they hunting down a never-before-seen ritualistic killer murdering young boys in 19th century New York. Also premiering Sunday and Monday is The Resident on Fox.
Lastly, on Sunday night is the premiere of Counterpart on STARZ starring J.K. Simmons. This sci-fi based espionage series centers on a UN employee who stumbles onto a secret dimensional gateway and a mirror version of himself. The early reviews for this series are positive and we recommend adding this to your list this week
Tuesday night will feature the return of Anna Paquin to the small screen with her new series Bellvue on WGN. She plays a detective working to solve mystery in a small town.
Later in the week the streaming platforms will be have some great offerings. The highlight is Britannia on Amazon. Lastly, the popular Vikings heads into its winter break.
