I had never seen cosplay until I went to my first show.

I've discovered so much because of Cons, I think I could write a list a mile long. But a couple things that really standout to me are:

--Rebecca Sugar & also Steven Universe: I was aware of Rebecca Sugar or Steven Universe, but at SDCC 2016, my husband and I sat through the panel because our son wanted to see the Adventure Time panel (I think). I can't explain it, but I was so in awe of the fans of her and of the show that I was overcome with emotion (as silly as that might sound). They were just SO passionate, that it was the perfect reminder of why all of us do this thing called Comic-Con. That it turned me into a fan of hers and the show right there in that moment.

--The Animation Show of Shows: I didn't know this even existed until one year we went to Hall H super early because we were planning to sit there all day for something we wanted to see later on (can't even remember what we were wanting to see). I love animation and this became one of my most favorite things about Comic-Con every year (or WonderCon, depending on where I see it).

--LOTS of artists. I don't think I would even be aware of how many awesome artists are out there if it wasn't for Comic-Con. Our family never bought art before and ever since we started attending Comic-Con, every single person in our family buys prints, books, and more from favorite artists they find at Comic-Con.

Panel serendipity seems to happen for us every year at SDCC. We saw a Critical Role panel that happened to be before the panel we were going to see, I had heard of it but had no idea how strong the fan base was. My son had never heard of it but is now working his way through the episodes.

I discovered You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login because I happen to be in Indigo Ballroom a couple years ago and stuck around between panels I was interested in.

Workaholics - sat through their panel. Had never heard of the show. It was absolute chaos, but in a good way. Got back home and binged the first four seasons in two weeks.
I actually met Karl on the sdcc floor the following year. He was shopping for jewellery.

Like others have mentioned here, Dirk Gently was my biggest discovery. Was totally unaware of the program until it showed up in Hall H. It looked cool, so I gave it a try when I got back home. Needless to say, that was a lost Saturday. Dirk Gently is totally a bag of Lays!!

I like the idea of a rating system for tv series based on chips. Lays, can't watch just one. Doritos, like Lays but leaves a residue behind. Kale chips, you're glad you watched one but but that's enough for now,  ...

For books, a few years ago there was a panel on the "Obscure Cities" series of graphic novels by Francois Schuiten and Benoit Peeters from the 80s and the project to collect and bring them back into print.  They're wonderful stories, and so very different than anything I had read before.

When I first signed onto this site and saw posters complaining about body odor, I always made sure to shower and wear anti-perspirant.

There was a woman this year a SDCC who dressed her toddler up as an Ewok and turned the stroller into a gigantic funko box.

Very inventive. :)
