if you want to include a brief description of the dishes.... ;)

while it'd be fun to include people, it's not necessary. On the other end, If celebration pictures are more your thing- post those.

Cranberry relish

I bag cranberry
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup sugar
Zest and juice of a large orange

Mix
Rest on counter for at least 24 hours

The acidity of the cranberry’s and sugar are natural preservatives

As it turns out I am doing no cooking this year whatsoever :) Electra is on the hook to make her famous sweet potato pies.

Here's our spread and the bird. DH is an awesome cook, and my family happily hands him the reins on Turkey day. I have never had to stress over fixing a turkey.

eta: Spread consisted of turkey, stuffing (DH cooks it seperately and then finishes it inside the bird), gravy, cranberry sauce (my contribution), mashed potatoes (my other specialty), my mom's cranberry jello salad, 5 cup salad (a Loya family tradition), my sister's green bean casserole-all homemade and delicious, and crescent rolls (Pillsbury-I think it's a nostalgia thing).

5 cup salad = 1 cup drained canned mandarin oranges, 1 cup drained pineapple tidbits, 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup marshmallows, 1 cup pecans or coconut (I do pecans, my family prefers coconut). You need to prepare it the night before. It sounds weird, and is definitely an old school 50s style home magazine recipe, but it is really good. The marshmallows transform into something light and delicious and meld with everything else.

Here's a badly framed pic of our desserts...my sister was excited that there was one kind of dessert per person, we had 11 people there and had 6 pies, 1 cheesecake, 1 chocolate tart, cider doughnuts, Chinese jello, fruit and chocolates. No one ate the fruit. :)

I meant to take a photo but completely forgot. We had an interesting Thanksgiving, it was with a group of 8 families, none of us have extended family in the area. Most of the families were from Europe, some from Africa and the Philippines. We were the only family where the parents were born in the US. The food was magnificent, but what was funny was that there were no decorations, fancy table settings, etc., just acres and acres of food and aluminum foil and paper plates. And bottles, so many bottles. Also the first Thanksgiving in decades where I didn't watch any football.

Southern CA Thanksgiving: crab legs, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms in stuff, homemade cranberry sauce (sorry: my wife is the cook and I know nothing but “eat”), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, apple pie and homemade chocolate cookies. FWIW my wife and boys are vegans so my bro in law and I ate all that crab

what a cutie!
the crab legs look good too!

my mom did a stuffed pumkin for the vegies at our table. I tried a stuffed tofu last year- it did not work out well at all. I did two types of stuffing with the same base this year. the base was sautied veggies, (onion carrot celery spice butter) & bread cubes.  I divided it in half & stuffed the bird with the base an a half pound of poached oysters in chicken stock.
the other half of the stuffing base, i added chestnuts & baked.

The stuffed pumpkin and my grown up not so cutie, can be seen in this picture;
