Has anyone thought that CCI is doing everything around the holidays to weed out the numbers?  With credit cards being used for the holidays maybe they hope it will keep some from participating???  Just a thought.....

That thought has popped into my head, too.  But then they have to work more during the holidays themselves, so probably not :)

I suspect they would prefer to avoid the holidays, if they could. I'm sure they just want to get it done earlier.

Personally, I am very happy with the early timeframe. It is a lot less stressful!
Me too!

Yeah, I expect it's just the necessary/unfortunate timing, if you want to do it early you need to literally do it within the couple of months following the prior con, else you hit the holidays. But if you drag it out into the next year, they're missing a good time for people to book flights in, etc. since they start scheduling around this time. So I think it's just an unfortunate time period. I believe CCI has stated that they want to keep it more feasible/accessible for as many people to come to SDCC as possible, so they don't generally want to price people out. So I really doubt they'd hope to weed people out by putting everything so close to the holidays to create issues with money/credit/etc.

I'm sure everyone will find a way. Honestly, when I was in uni, I definitely used my mum's card once or twice for a badge sale or hotel reservations (because I definitely didn't have the credit for it.) Even before Returning Reg, I was warning my group to make sure they kept liquid funds available for badge purchases in prep for returning reg and then open reg if necessary. I've been doing the same for Hotel Lottery just because they're moving things up so much and it'll be after the holidays etc.

Interesting idea, but I think they just want to get it done with.
Plus, everyone who wants to go to SDCC knows that it's coming. Immediately after 2017, I set aside $200-something for 2018. A highly recommend course of action for anyone.

Except not all of us are just a measly $200 something...  for me, it is almost $1,000 so not something particularly easy to just lay off immediately when we return...   not counting if we are buying another group of 3 for a buying group. :)

That's true, if you're buying for a family then it's much more expensive.
Buying groups though, you get the money from the others within a day or two which is before the card is even charged.

Again, not everyone uses credit... I don’t have them or use them nor will I.. If I don’t have cash for something then I don’t need it :)  I ensure that I can have enough..

Since last year was our first time, I didn’t even know having it this year was possible but now I know and have made appropriate plans for it.

Having it later gives people more time to save, but it also adds more stress. I don't think there's a magic balance for everyone. But as someone who used to buy next year's badge before leaving the current year's SDCC, I'm all for earlier. It just feels better knowing that it is all settled.

Need advice.

We need two rooms for CC. But have been shut out three years in a row. Four different members of our party have been requesting two rooms each time and it hasn’t taken us too long to get though, but nevertheless we’ve been shut out. The question is would it be better to....

1) have each of us request a single room using the same hotel preference list and take our chances? Or...

2) continue to try to get two rooms per each of the 4 request forms....

Thanks!

Continue requesting 2 rooms per submission.  We've had good luck requesting more than one room.  If one room is available at your choice then chances are 2 rooms are available.  Good luck!

Really examine your hotel list relative to the size of the hotel and the demand.  If all your hotels are "high demand" that sell out quickly, maybe you need to add at least one hotel that's low demand.

Are you all asking for the same hotels?  If so, have at least one hotel on each person's list be different from everyone else's.

My hope is for a boring and predictable hotel lottery.

I think hotelpocolypse is worse than registration. Especially that week of hell waiting for hotel emails to go out!
