I hope you've already reported the link to CCI.

I have not. Do you know how I do that?  I found another website doing it as well.

CCI General Discussion / Re: CCI vs. SLCC II

Checked the status of the case briefly (it's up on PACER now,) as far as I can tell there's no real updates to give. It's mainly pre-trial stuff now, motions to exclude, to seal, etc. Though there is a motion for attorney's fees that hasn't been heard yet. I'm assuming it's regarding fees associated with contempt orders. SLCC and crew were ordered to pay the cost and fees associated with the motion that brought the breach of the court order to the court's attention. It hasn't been ruled on yet though.

So basically... no update.

And you never know... the way it's looking, they might have open reg done by then too!!!!

I simultaneously hope for that and not. Though I do think if they don't do it in November that is cutting it precariously close to Christmas, which I doubt they'd want.

I'm just wondering if the very early sale, which conflicts with LACC, is a direct attempt to reduce LA/local attendance and increase out of state attendance. This would bring more $ to San Diego and make hotel draw even worse? Now, having said that as an out-of stater - I'm happy to see the early draw because it does give me more time to plan, I'm just surprised, and of course neither my anxiety level, or my blood pressure will be normal for the next 8 days. Gah!

There has been some speculation by TJ that they could, potentially, try to get a least one of their badge sales done before November 28, 2017. That date happens to be the first date scheduled (unless it gets continued) for the SLCC v. CCI/SDCC trial.

Though honestly I'd doubt that they would be particularly concerned about the numbers of other conventions either way. This is closer to some online years when they did the pre-reg/returning reg in October-November. It's probably a lot easier for them to have it sorted out earlier, as it gives them a lot more time to deal with potential issues and move onto the hotel lottery and the other logistics.

Am I being a complete dunce again or isn't the solution here bleedingly obvious?

TEAM 5TH AVE: "WE WANT A HOTEL!"

TEAM CONV CTR: "WE WANT AN EXPANSION"

CON ATTENDEES: "UH WE KINDA NEED BOTH RIGHT?"

There's likely multimillion dollar architectural firms drawing up plans for both sides, maybe even with nice models to demonstrate their visions. I wish they held dueling press conferences unveiling their master plans at the same time, and I'd just roll up into the hotel team's presentation, steal their hotel model, walk over to the convention center expansion team's presentation, stick the hotel model on top of the convention center expansion model, put on some duct tape to hold them together, voila, here's your new master plan.

Kidding aside, isn't a compromise in every party's interest? Why chart a path towards years of more delays, years of more litigation, when everyone could make more profits sooner just by working together?

One would hope they can find a compromise. But honestly, in my experience when an organization, especially a big hotel company/etc., has already poured funds and often years in getting their plan up to scratch to be officially presented... they're unlikely to want to budge at all. I'm not sure how long the company has been planning the hotel on that site though. All I know is that the convention expansion has gone through years of constant litigation and planning.

Especially considering it looks like Fifth Ave. has the current contract to lease from SD for the land in question, which'll be a big contract dispute now. I'm curious as to the terms for the contract with Port of San Diego now... because it is generally a government agency, as far as I know, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a general power to do what they think is best for the area in terms of breaking a lease at least before the building officially starts...

I might be mistaken... but I'm pretty sure the property that both side want to build on is in fact owned by the city. It's managed by the Port of San Diego and basically various areas lease the land to use for their businesses. I'm not sure if corporations etc. are allowed to outright by the land. So I'm pretty sure the land is owned by the SD government, a third-party obvious, it's just that... I think after the initial expansion looked super far off from being approved whoever (I assume CCI) let the lease fall off for the land and then Fifth Avenue Landing contracted with PoSD to lease the land.

bold added

Which would conceivably be after Press application status get announced, Please.  PLEASE.

I never pay much attention to pro stuff since it's not my thing but it doesn't even look like Trade Pro has their applications open yet.  Us press peeps might not be the only ones facing open reg without knowing our status as something else.  No idea if that's normal.  I don't pay attention to that end of things and now I feel silly having such a big gap in my knowledge there.

Completely agreed on basically everything, and it's awful they're spreading misinformation ugh. Either way, I can't blame you for thinking it's ranty, but I had exactly the same response ugh. Not to mention, considering the huge amount of people trying to buy badges, there is no way there are "unused passes" left over for ANYONE to distribute, unless you're getting them against CCI's policy. I hope you've already reported the link to CCI.

Though I'm thinking they may be referring to total individuals with the 200,000, as in throughout the 4 days + Preview Night since there's the 4-day badges and then individual badges day badges. Probably resulting in different people throughout the days even if they sell 120,000 per day, there are people who can only manage to go 1 or two days then other people count additionally towards the total individuals.
