What '18 Spring & Early Summer Cons are you going to?
« on: July 31, 2017, 04:05:42 PM »
As normal, one of my ways of dealing with SDCC PCD (post con depression) is to begin planing my spring con's.

What '18 Spring Cons are you thinking about ?

feel free to suggest more cons!  Personally what i'm looking for is a good run of cons. I'll be coming out from the east coast & need to work a plan- visiting family, a few con's in succession, roommates etc

At first look, i'm thinking about WC, SVCC & SDCF but i enjoyed ECCC & my cousin is in Seattle.

I am going to Gallifrey One in February. Such a great little con. Hope to do a dinner one night with the other FoCC cult members attending.

ECCC and WonderCon definitely have been added to the circuit for me.

Hopefully life slows down enough where I'll actually remember to go to SVVC since it's just down the 101 from me!

I'm going to Gallifrey One, ECCC, WonderCon and Silicon Valley Comic Con. I went to all of those last year as well, as well as a Walker Stalker Con. It was a busy Spring!

I'd really like to go to a convention outside of California for the first time, so ECCC is definitely piquing my interest, especially since I have friends up there who I'd love to be able to see, as well. I am a big proponent of taking trips where you can knock out two birds with one stone ;D

I'm in San Jose, so I'd love to check out Silicon Valley CC as I haven't made it out for the first two editions. However, I'm also weighing two bucket list-type events that same weekend - The Masters golf tournament in Georgia, and WrestleMania in New Orleans - so SVCC will have to wait until 2019 if I can pull off either out-of-state trip.

I'm definitely doing WonderCon and I hope to see a bunch of my FoCC Cult family again! It was by far my best WonderCon ever last year b/c of all the fun I had with everyone from the forum.

I will also be doing SDCF, it's a small and endearing Con with lots of personal access and time with all the guests.

I'd love to try C2E2 one day, but it won't be this year.

I've heard good things about ECCC (it's definitely on my list of future cons to go to). I enjoyed SVCC. It had a good vibe but was relatively low key (there were some awesome panels...like with Buzz Aldrin, Adam Savage and Grant Gustin/Tom Felton...and NASA had a substantial presence). Being in Silicon Valley...they try to combine technology and pop culture. Hopefully I can meet founder (and Apple co-founder) Steve Wozniak next year.

WC is a given.

So is SDCF. San Diego Comic-Fest was incredible! Celebrities left and right. And when I say celebrities, I'm talking about such luminaries like Floyd Norman, Larry Houston, Baton Lash, Mike Royer, Mark Evanier, Arlen Schumer, Jim Valentino...and more. This year's focus was on Jack Kirby and they knocked it out of the park (especially with the Kirby cocktails at the Kirby Cafe).

Next year's theme will be the celebration of the 200th anniversary  Mary Shelleys Frankenstein (looking forward to seeing what they do for that one)!

Has anyone gone to Superman Celebration? 2018 will be the 40th annual celebration. I have always wanted to go, but it seems like it's difficult to get to (as in renting a car and driving from the airport). We are lazy about things like that (yet we drive 8 hours to see my parents every Thanksgiving). It's held in Metropolis, Illinois.

I really wish San Diego had another smaller show.  SD comic fest doesn't have the number of exhibitors I like and So Cal Comic Con is on indefinite hiatus...  :(

I think one strength SDCF has were the panels and access to some legends. Out of curiosity, what kind of exhibitors would you like to see there?

The panels are definitely their strong point.  I like to see a lot of back issue vendors.  I went the first 2 years and there were only about 3 to 5 of them.  Usually around 20 is where I have the most luck.
