For any newbies/first-timers, [member=3884]mlgagne[/member] & [member=1060]DRWHO42[/member] did a great write up in the blog last year with an overview of what to expect

Also, we have a list of hotel reviews here:

Members fill out a basic questionnaire about their stay in a separate hotel review thread, and then I merge them in to the master list of hotel reviews. The thread above has the pointers to the different hotel's reviews. I know there are a lot of hotel review sites, but these are more geared towards an SDCC stay, so we hope they are helpful.

Note: There are some older reviews that were not from the questionnaire style thread, and might be a little sparse.

I think hotelpocolypse is worse than registration. Especially that week of hell waiting for hotel emails to go out!
i agree hotelpocolypse is madness, which is way worse than registration, especially if you want any 1 of the top 6 hotels downtown.

I was just thinking about that last night, that is the big big question this year. It's the combination of several things last year that gets me wondering. They added the field, they only sent out the lottery notices to people that had badges (did they send to volunteers too?) And the sale ran really late, making me think that they might have had to walk back on their plans because things weren't ready in time.  (This is rampant speculation, but it smells right.)

One change I would like to see, assuming things run the same as last time, would be to make each hotel "zone" (downtown, airport, shelter island, etc.) an item you can choose on your list of 6. So if I wanted a downtown hotel, but wanted to be in Shelter Island if I can't be downtown then my list could be something like:

1) MMM 2) Bayfront 3) Residence Inn 4) Manchester 5) Downtown 6) Shelter Island.

The way it worked last time, if I listed 5 specific downtown hotels and then a non-downtown hotel then I would get that last one if my top 5 weren't available even though other downtown hotels were. Just a thought.

They are certainly getting everyone badged well in advance this year, including Press. So it makes me think hotels just might be tied to your Member ID????

Linking hotels to badgeholders with tickets would be a good step forward, I think.  Of course it couldn't it alleviate the entire crush.
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

I'm new to FOCC. I did the returning registration buying group and open registration which I cannot thank those involved enough cause on my own I would not have gotten any tickets.  I'm not sure how the hotel sale works here.  Can anyone please tell me if its like buying groups or just finding roommates or swapping rooms once you have gotten them? Thanks and sorry for the ignorance

Congrats on getting your badge!  [member=364]Angology[/member] posted yesterday with links to good info about the hotel sale, and there are additional links in DrWho's article:

Hi everyone,
I'm also new to the Comic-con experience took me 7 years to finally get a badge and I even got all 5 days. Any advice or information that can be given would be appreciated for a first time attendee. Look forward to hearing from somebody.
Let me know who would like to do a group cosplay I will gladly join for my first experience.

Congratulations on getting a badge! I'll echo the earlier post, the links about the hotel lottery and hotel reviews are great, and stay tuned ... I can guarantee that as details for 2018 are announced we will discuss them in detail :)

For SDCC in general, you are definitely in the right place, there will be a lot of information posted as things are announced, but if you have any specific questions in the meantime ask away.

The real key is to keep checking this site, because we will all be chewing over the latest info (including any potential changes) when it is released.

Hi, this is my first time attending comic con. My question is why do people book backup hotels? If, I have one prepaid right now, what's the concern?
