Just got an email with s survey in it.

The email included a link to buy badges for 25% off for 2018. This is good through April 30th. Unfortunately, it's only general admission 3-day badges, and not VIP badges.  :(

The email did indeed say that it was good through April 30, but I just checked the website and regular badges are still listed at 25% off!

Well that's great that the 25% discount is still available but...???
Say what you mean and mean what you say.  Hopefully they keep faith with those that are buying now and don't in fact offer better deals later.
Or if they do, allow those who have already bought to participate in those deals.

If they're doing things in true Silicon Valley style, they probably have a whole system set up to handle when the deal expires, and then someone entered April 31st as the date.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the badge-buying page is blank?

I'm stalking for VIP badges...

I did too, but I've had no response. My original response last April said that VIP badges would go on sale in August/September. But now even the general admission badges are no longer on sale!

Huh, I'm guessing they are updating? Unless they got hacked, which I wouldn't be shocked if so. Still don't trust Growtix. Anyway, also waiting for the VIP to go on sale.

The new sci-fi show Extinct will have a VIP premiere party at SVCC. You can enter for a chance to win tickets.

Late to the gate on this one, i know but
I'm looking at hotels and maybe vip

I'm looking at expenses with an eye to minimizing them.
for example, the close hilton is $215, the 2 mile away one is $156

  • how much were/are the vip passes?
  • is it useful to book the close hotel or can i do the VIP & stay farther away?
  • did vip passes include a lounge with a coat check?

any other logistical info?

Last year, the close Hilton was in the hotel block. IIRC the ones in the block were all around $179 and did not really sell out that quickly -- if you really like the Hilton and the reservation is cancellable, then it may be a good idea to just book now and then change it when the 2018 block goes up.

Which hotel are you looking at that is 2 miles away? There are a bunch of hotels north of the convention center that is accessible via VTA Light Rail which would make it easy to get back and forth. But I wouldn't recommend staying that far away if you have to drive.

Can't comment on VIP, but maybe [member=314]Transmute Jun[/member] or [member=2389]Mario Wario[/member] can?

The VIP badges are not yet on sale. I am checking the website every day (I was told last spring that they would be available in August /September, but so far, nothing) and will post here when I see them. Even the general admission badges are off the table right now. They might be doing some kind of restructuring for the badges. I'm not sure.

I can't quite recall what the VIP badges were, but I'm thinking they were around 200-ish? They are very much worth it for the guarantee of early entrance into panels. There is a lounge, but I don't recall it being of very much use, other than as a place to host the badge pickup and the free autograph signings. I don't believe there is any kind of coat/bag check.

There are a number of in-block hotels within easy walking distance, so I'd wait until they are released. 2 are attached to the convention center itself, at least one is right across the street (as close as we were to the Seattle Convention Center at ECCC from the Sheraton) and the others are a couple of blocks away.

The weather is pretty nice in April, so unless there is a freak rainstorm, you're not likely to need a coat check. I recall this year going across the street to panels n the theatre and over to the park where they had the outdoor section/food trucks and we didn't need any kind of outerwear at all.

You could also apply for a press badge, if you'd like. Press badges are not as 'good' as VIP, but they are better than the general badges. You get some priority in panel seating (after VIPs) and there is a press lounge with wifi and coffee.

Yeah, what TJ said plus if you do VIP, do the the gold VIP. Platinum is more and I don't think it is worth the asking price. The only differences is a free shirt and you can go to a party, unless that changes for 2018. Btw, Steve Wozniak goes to that party. I did it last year -- it was cool. But I am doing gold next year, unless the differences are huge between the two VIP levels. I don't think that will happen, though.

Hotel, I would try to stay closer. That is too far and not necessary, because the traffic during the con isn't bad. Same for the asking price. Now, if you want that better deal being that far, then go for it. But I would still stay closer if possible.

I think i'll book the hilton-cancelable, If i don't get a vip i'll keep it, if i do get a vip pass, then maybe go down to one night in the hotel so i can party.
It looks as tho i'll be in a campground about an hr away

humm, i have to factor in parking.
