Star Trek: Discovery
« on: March 07, 2017, 09:05:25 PM »
Starting the conversation about this series.

After a few misfires and some behind the scenes drama more casting news today.

Jason Isaacs as the captain of Discovery is interesting. The rest of the cast 'on paper' looks good.

Yes. That is what I understand from the articles I have been reading.

She's the Captain of a different ship.

What are you, Worf? Do you tremble and quake with fear at the approach of combat? Hoping to talk your way out of a fight like a Human? Or do you hear the cry of the warrior, calling you to battle, calling you to glory like a Klingon?

I pay $1freakin70 for cable/month as it is and now can't watch Star Trek, it's getting ridiculous.   How have they NOT created Starfleet academy yet?  seems a sure hit with the young adults.  They could do internships in space, so it didn't get to classroom boring.

All that JJ love in that trailer. Man, you sure he didn't direct this series? Lol

Now how do I feel about this trailer? It feels like Mass Effect meets Star Trek. The tech also looks way too advanced to be 10 years before Kirk. Don't get me started on the Klingons... Overall, the trailer is cool, the series looks interesting, but it does not feel like Star Trek.

This is probably the show I would be most interested in a panel / signing for.

Personally, I find JJ to be the worst thing that ever happened to Star Trek, so I'm not jazzed... but I wasn't planning on paying for CBS All Access anyway. I'll let the first season shake out and see if people feel like it's worth watching after the fact.

Our plan is to watch the first (free) episode. Then we'll see what others think. If it seems reasonable (and I'm guessing it will) then we'll do a free trial once it's over and binge.

A few more things I would like to add:

1. The Vulcan we see in the trailer is Sarek, if you were wondering.

2. Looks like the bridge is located at the bottom of the ship we see in the trailer. It is different from the norm Starfleet likes to do for their main ships--past, present, and future. The ship design overall, to me, it is fine. Inside? Looks like it came from the JJ universe.

3. In my opinion, that space suit fits more in the TNG era. I know others have pointed this out, too.

4. If you pause one part of the trailer--the photon torpedo lock on scene--look at the bottom right of the screen, the ship has 'bullets'.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ At first I didn't see it, until Trekyards pointed it out.

5. Another thing Trekyards pointed out, the Discovery ship was MIA in this trailer. Lol They are right, I didn't see it.

Btw, still not a fan of the Klingons, unless there's a reason why they look different.
