I'm hearing on some other boards that Hasbro may not come to SDCC anymore, though I believe that is just speculation.
That notion does make some sense however, now that Hasbro is trying to do their own in-house convention - "HASCON." It would make some sense for Hasbro to just sell their exclusives at their own convention.
Here is what we actually know:
- Hasbro has taken back the license to do Transformers conventions from Fun Publications, the company that has put on the Transformers exclusive Botcon convention for the last 10+ years.
- Hasbro has announced their own HASCON to take place in Rhode Island on Sept. 8-10.
- Hasbro did renew the license to do GI Joe conventions with Fun Publications last year, for a two year period that will expire in 2018.
That's about all we know for sure at this time. Personally I hope that Hasbro continues coming to SDCC. The Hasbro line has been a frequent source of nightmares for me, but I do like having them at the convention. So I guess we will see what happens.
If Hasbro does in fact keep their exclusives to sell at HASCON, then I expect there will be many more people buying the exclusives online since I expect the attendance at the first HASCON will not approach the 150,000+ that are at SDCC.
