For fun---I wish SDCC would program a few totally surprise panels in Ballroom 20 and Hall H--by that I mean panels with no description, no stars names..you have to show up and find out.  They would have some unbelievable guests, giveaways, and content, but you have to have faith, walk in, and only find out once the doors were closed.
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

A couple of years ago, Bill Murray showed up unannounced in Hall H to promote a film - people went crazy!

Also a couple of years ago, the first panel on Friday morning in Hall H sounded generic. It seemed like it would just be trailers. Then it turned out to be Sam Raimi discussing a Last of Us movie.

Interestingly, I haven't heard anything about a Last of Us movie since...

Best one IMO that I was at was Interstellar.  No one had ANY idea they were going to show up, but I saw Paramount was presenting (only had TBA in the schedule description) and thought it was worth taking a shot since it was on a Thursday and there was literally no line.  Out come Nolan and McConaghey for a wonderful panel.

I guessed that secret panel might be The Last of Us too!  But yeah, sadly all i've heard about it since is that its in development hell :(.

As for this year?  Not sure.  I could see "God Particle" or a Cloverfield-universe movie coming to SDCC (since those always tend to be shrowded in some mystery).  There'll be some big surprise though... that's the magic of SDCC... there's always one :D

I feel like this would work really well on Thursday or Sunday and be a big bonus for people who were only able to score badges for these days!

I recall that the first Avengers group reveal was not announced ahead of time.  This was the first time I think Mark Ruffalo was announced as Hulk and the crowd and internet went wild.

I had no idea surprise panels were a thing.  I remember last year Hall H Saturday programming was starting really late and people thought maybe they'd cram something in there, but they didn't. It just became and super long morning.   ???

This is actually why I like the Thursday panels sometimes. Every now and then the description is super vague. And then something amazing pops up. Specifically thinking of the Interstellar one also. This was why we went even though we had not planned on Hall H for that Thursday. It was so mellow and we just walked up because it was empty.

So generally for Hall H, is overnight camping not required for Thursdays? Can I show up like at 5 am?

Thursday 2015, the year Bill Murray came and that panel was followed by Hunger Games, I just walked in about 20 or so minutes into the Bill Murray panel.  I had actually went to the exhibit hall first thing to grab some stuff, dropped off my stuff at hotel because it was a lot, then saw Hall H was open and went YES and walked right in.

Unless it's a Star Wars day or Marvel day, you'll likely get in the room showing up at 5am.  If you don't mind not being in the front half of the room, you'll be fine.
