Tell me about the Library as a venue
« on: July 07, 2017, 11:25:35 AM »
There's a panel on Friday at the library that I'm interested in, but I've never gone there for anything before.  I have a few questions.

When I google it, it appears to be located right behind Petco Park.  So like a 10 minute walk at most from the con center?

How early should one show up to the panel? Doesn't seem like it's Hall H or Ballroom 20 levels of popularity, obviously, but is it like the 6's where you'll still want to show up a panel or two (or three lol) before to get in the room?  Or is it pretty much a walk in?

How big is the Neil Morgan auditorium? I'm sure the exact number is easily googlable, but like... how does the space "feel" lol. Ok that's sort of an esoteric question I know, but I just want to know what kind of venue space I'm walking into.

The more things change, the more they stay the same

A lot of people won't bother to walk all the way out there, though, which will help.

That's true.  So am I correct that it's the building like a block or two behind Petco park? That's what comes up when I google it.

Yep! It's really pretty and it has that architectural dome thing on top, it's hard to miss. I've never been inside but one year we went to a cocktail reception in the front courtyard. It took us longer than 10 minutes to walk there, but I was wearing heels and also we got slightly lost (having NOT mapped it ahead of time), so I think 10-15 minutes sounds about right (depending on crowds and crossing the street from the convention center - you know, all the usual stuff).

I have heard that the library is gorgeous and worth a trip to see on its own.

There's an education conference my wife went to last year so I spent some time there and went to a few panels. It almost never filled up and the AC was delightful. The library itself is really nice and the roof top view is awesome.
