IDW Publishing has temporarily closed its San Diego Comic Art Gallery as part of broad changes to the two-year-old gallery. Founding gallery manager TJ Shevlin exited the company earlier this month, and IDW removed the retail storefront component of the gallery. A source familiar with the situation calls it a "transitional period" for the gallery.IDW's San Diego Comic Art Gallery first opened in June 2015, coinciding with the company's move to its new headwarters at Liberty Station's former Navy Barracks. In its two years, it hosted numerous exhibits with the work of Kevin Eastman, Howard Chaykin, and Ben Templesmith, and fostered local community events as well as tie-in events concurrent with Comic-Con International: San Diego.IDW anticipates re-opening the gallery sometime in February 2018.
that whole situation is just curious- I had heard TJ last day was a week or so ago---
San Diego Comic Fest would like to congratulate our good friend TJ Shevlin for concluding his amazing 3-year run as Manager of the San Diego Comic Art Gallery. He brought every bit of his passion for comics to this role, forging a great community for fans, wonderful events with schools and local scientific institutions. For anyone lucky enough to swing inside the gallery they would always get an enthusiastic and informative talk from this guru of comics. He has been a great friend to San Diego Comic Fest speaking on lectures for several years and more importantly a part of our community.Thank you so much, TJ. We wish you the best in the future.
