That date is a pretty big assumption.  That's going by nothing but pure speculation based on previous years.  If early bird hotels are incredibly earlier than past years/trends, then it makes little sense to assume Hotelpocalypse would be that late (last year was the latest, right? And I suspect it was as late as it was last year because of how late Gen. Reg. was).
Obviously we're ALL speculating at this point with not clear date announced.  But I think it's early to be disappointed about non-announced dates at this juncture.

Ha, exactly!  I start thinking about/planning/panicking about the next year's Comic-Con as I walk to my car Sunday evening!  :P :-X

I don't think it's a big assumption at all. The early birds ALWAYS ends the day before the big lotto, that's the entire point and why it's *early bird* b/c it's before the big lotto and it's to encourage as many people as possible to book before the big lotto and why those rooms are also non-transferable and non-refundable. Whatever then does not get booked in Early Bird goes into the Lotto pool and they are more expensive then too.

It didn't last year. Last year, the initial announcement said that name changes and adding nights (which is the only 'closing' date given) would be accepted until May 1. Hotelpocalypse was April 26.

So there's precedent. I just can't imagine, that with everything else so organized and early this year, that CCI is still going to wait until the very last minute for hotels. I'm going to keep crossing my fingers for an early Hotelpocalypse until we hear for certain (or until April 2018 comes, I guess).

Oooooh k......so there were 5 whopping extra days to change names, but the Early closed before the big Lotto. Didn't someone else post here that in OnPeak system is says the offers are only good until April 26th? And it's not as simple with hotels as it is to do badges I would guess. Do they not still have to negotiate the rates every year with the hotels and lock that part in?

Yeah, I know hotels are a lot more complicated, but it's been as early as the last week of February before. I'm not saying the 5-day mismatch from 2017 is proof of anything, just that it gives me hope.

But also, isn't the negotiating already done? I thought it was part of the 3-year contract with the Convention Center, that the downtown hotels also signed a contract guaranteeing CCI a room block at rates that could only be raised by a predetermined percentage each year? If the hotels hadn't already agreed to a rate structure for the duration of the Convention Center contract, they'd just raise the rates to market value as soon as the contract was locked in and CCI couldn't change venues.

Yes that was me :)  when you go to book and select a hotel there is a notice on it:

Note: Offer Expires April 25, 2018 or when supplies are depleted, whichever comes first.

I hope Hotelpocalypse is early. I was actually hoping for January, originally. And I agree that just because April 25 is the last day to make changes doesn't necessarily mean that April 26 is the lottery.

BUT the fact that Clambert saw that the ‘offer’ was open until April 25 when she tried to make a fake booking is a serious indicator that it will be later.

I just hope that’s all wrong and it will be earlier... it’s so nice to have all of that settled!

I am with you!!  I was hoping for Jan/Feb as well lol  I was so deflated reading that and I hope maybe it is typo of some sort   we can hope right!

I like being able to separate things a little so that my wallet isn’t hit all at once so for me, attempting open reg in Dec (darn you ret reg shut out) and if that is successful then being able to recover and hit possible hotel in Feb ... recover...  then planning the rest and saving for the event after puts a big breather on me

I don't think it's a big assumption at all. Whatever then does not get booked in Early Bird goes into the Lotto pool and they are more expensive then too.
But until this year the early bird has never been even remotely this early, right?  Has the early bird window ever been 5+ months long: nearly half a freaking year?!
I have no horses in this race, and I only pay attention to hotel stuff casually (yea 20 minute drive to Comic-Con from my condo).  But if the dates of the process have radically changed then it seems plausible that Hotel Registration could also be earlier.  It seems plausible to me that CCI put a late cap on the early bird ending date to leave themselves as large of a window as possible for Hotelpocalypse to cover their bases: meaning, they COULD have it in, say, Feb, announce in Jan. that the window for early bird is closing the day before Hotel Lotto, and still be copacetic.

Right now we have no idea, other than early bird seems way earlier than any other year previously, General Reg. seems earlier than it's been in a long time (before the new year), and CCI seems to be expediting the process in general.  Obviously it's possible Hotelpocalypse will be late April, even though everything else seems to be moving along to be done earlier than last several years & CCI would stick to the past 'script.'  Maybe the hotel system is so complex it takes that long to get things rolling (though not complex enough to keep early bird from hitting way earlier).  There are a lot of 'moving parts' I think the majority of us don't know about.
My overall point is at this point we have no idea and we're ALL spitting conjecture and speculating.  Assuming that one aspect will be the same as previous years even though other aspects are not.  Heck, I have no clue either: I'm just spitballing too and merely posing an observation that at this time there is zero concrete information

Kudos to cci for getting the early bird started so, umm, early! I know there are people who like to do the early bird sale just to avoid the hotelpocalypse stress, so it's got to feel good to have that squared away. I imagine the hotels like it too, having those reservations on the books.

Now onto rampant speculation. Under the hypothesis that last year's delays were due to technical issues stemming from changes they made or wanted to make, if I was managing the project I would have wanted extra time for testing and what not for this next sale.

Good point!!

Also, how cool is it that there are people who have their badge(s), flight booked, and now hotel booked?!  I can't fathom any other Comic-Con where the tri-force of logistics have been able to be taken care of before Thanksgiving!

Should keep updating the amount of rooms available for Early Bird as I wasn't able to find the amounts left available, so I went ahead and bought a room super early just to not lose the hotel I want.

Inventory as of 2:20PM EST.  Not a mad rush to book rooms, but some people are finalizing their plans.
