Yeah, we will be there!

2017 will be my 6th year in a row but it will be the year of reckoning. Last year was disappointing, and especially so considering ReedPop's involvement. Rose City down the road looked like it had a much better lineup despite only being two days, although unfortunately we didn't get to that one this year. If this is the trend we may start going to RCCC instead. Also, ECCC was originally my replacement for WonderCon, but now that we have SVCC that can suffice as my spring con.

I think last year was just a bad combination of last minute guest cancellations and ECCC management wasn't able to easily replace many of them. But yes, I found myself spending a lot less time in the main hall than I had planned, and instead saw a lot of smaller panels. I'd like to see more big name guests this year, but even if those don't happen, I know I'll still have a good time at the con.

In any case, I'm glad you will be coming this year, Hikanteki!

We are leaning towards yes again next year.
SDCC: 2011-2014, 2016-2019, 2022-| ECCC: 2015-2018, 2021 | WonderCon: ? | DragonCon: ? | NYCC: ?

Zim: Ummm, is it supposed to be stupid?
Tallest Purple: It's not stupid; [sarcastically] it's advanced!

I hope that 'leaning' becomes a confirmed yes!

Thanks! Yeah, the last minute cancellations didn't help, but for me it was a combination of a lackluster guest list to begin with (there were fewer than previous years, and for the most part the ones they did get were not as established) as well as promises of ReedPop resources that just plain didn't materialize while at the same time the formerly strong independent spirit of this con felt diminished. I was actually looking forward to a NYCC-west of sorts, but what we got felt more like a generic location NYCC-lite.

That's a fair enough assessment. But I think you owe it to yourself to see if this trend continues, or if it was just a blip. ;)

So you want to go to ECCC...

This article summarizes all of the 'small' stuff that got revealed this week (things that were overshadowed by the announcement of badge sale and no VIP passes). Enjopy!

That would certainly make it difficult! Hopefully you will be able to attend other great cons out there, such as NYCC!

Oh yes, I've got press passes for NYCC this year :-) So I wouldn't miss it for the world. I also did press for Star Trek: Mission NY which was a lot of fun.

Agreed 100%. Some of the years in the past have been better than others. 2012 and 2015 were amazing, 2013 was good, and 2014 was a blip. Not every year can be amazing. Even SDCC has some years that are better than others. I'm a bit more cautious about dismissing ECCC 2016 as a blip though, due to the acquisition. But we are still planning to go in 2017.

Quick question, which hotel do any of you recommend that is good and right next to this con? The last time I was in Seattle was in 2008. I stayed at the Sheraton that year in downtown.

(Gotta pick the hotel here since Funko will do a different one near their HQ.)

I have always stayed at the Sheraton, which is next door to the convention center. Well, technically it's across the street, but that's all of 20 feet away. Given Seattle's penchant for rain and my preference to wear cosplay, I like the proximity. The Hyatt is another good choice, and not far. I've heard a lot of good reviews. ECCC's hotel block usually opens up at the time of badge sales.

If I have any money left after NYCC I'm gonna try and get a four day pass for ECCC.  It'll be my first time visiting Washington.  It's interesting to here everyone's take on the this Con.  Is there enough to see and do to justify four days?

It depends where your interests lie. If you're interested in Artists' Alley and comics, yes, ECCC is up there with the best of them. If you're into cosplay or books and writing, then again, this con is one of the better ones for panels and interaction in that area. If you want a big exhibit floor, but without all of the traffic snarls caused by large commercial studio booths, then ECCC has that too. If you're into gaming, ECCC has a sizable, but not huge, gaming presence.

Where ECCC suffers in comparison with a con like NYCC or SDCC, or even WonderCon, is in the entertainment guests. They will have individual guests who (usually, but not always) hold a one hour Q&A panel, but spend the rest of their time selling autographs and photo ops. You will not have any big studio panels or announcements. However if you're interested in the local Seattle film industry, you will see some panels and premieres for local, independent studios.

ECCC also does not have nearly as much in the way of offsites and evening activities. We usually spend our evenings seeing some of those indie studio film premieres/screenings or going to comedy shows (put on by the con, so included in your badge). Last year there was a Funko party, for the first time, I think. But it was difficult to get tickets (as are all Funko parties).

I've attended ECCC for the past few years. I spend my time going to some of the celeb panels, cosplay panels and writing/book panels. I walk around the floor. I attend some gaming things. I enjoy it, but it isn't the same experience as SDCC or NYCC.

I would be curious to know how the ECCC experience compares to C2E2, but have no experience myself with that con.
