Forum Security?
« on: May 03, 2017, 04:36:34 PM »
I see warnings about the forum not being secure and that passwords should not be entered on the site. It happens with Chrome and Firefox. Just wondering if this is "normal"?

Insecure password warning in Firefox

Firefox will display a lock icon with red strike-through red strikethrough icon in the address bar when a login page you’re viewing does not have a secure connection. This is to inform you that if you enter your password it could be stolen by eavesdroppers and attackers.

Starting in Firefox version 52, you will also see a warning message when you click inside the login box to enter a username or password.

ugg. this is going to force the migration. The new server is ready, and its got an SSL certificate and all that good stuff. Was hoping to wait till hotel season settles down.

Is it letting you continue, can you still use the forum?

I believe so--otherwise I would have heard about it before now.

Yes, the objection can be overriden.

Chrome's Not secure:

Check if a site's connection is secure
To see whether a website is safe to visit, you can check for security info about the site. Chrome will alert you if you can’t visit the site safely or privately.

Open a page in Chrome on your computer.
To check a site's security, to the left of the web address, look at the security status:
Lock Secure
Info Info or Not secure
Dangerous Not secure or Dangerous
To see the site's details and permissions, click the icon. At the top of the panel, you'll see a summary of how private Chrome thinks the connection is.

Info or Not secure
The site isn't using a private connection. Someone might be able to see or change the information you send or get through this site.

You might see a "Login not secure" or "Payment not secure" message. We suggest that you don't enter sensitive details, like passwords or credit cards.

On some sites, you can visit a more secure version of the page:
Select the address bar.
Delete http://, and enter https:// instead.
If that doesn't work, contact the site owner to ask that they secure the site and your data with HTTPS.

It's been saying this for a while now. That our passwords aren't secure.
