Wow.... we just got an email notice that GenCon 50 badges are almost SOLD OUT. I didn't think there *was* such a thing as a sellout!

This is very soon, unfortunately I could not attend. I'm sure those who will attend will enjoy and this would be one of the most special con this year. Better prepare yourself for exciting activities on hand!.

Sorry to hear you could not attend, Vantlin! I will roll some dice in your honor!

Apparently Saturday badges are almost gone. No badges will be sold onsite.

I had a blast! DaveG and I met up a couple of times, and he seemed to be having fun as well. I hope you can come next year as well, Mllny!

This year was sold out (I heard rumors that attendance was 75,000) and they were definitely looking for badges much more. I didn't notice more crowds (I hint expanding into Lucas Oil helped a lot with this) but I did notice that it was harder to get into events. There were fewer empty seats or generics accepted at many events.

Yeah I think it may be on my list for 2018. I do want to go back

I think next year won't be as bad. I think you just got people to go cause it was Gen Con 50. I have a feeling next year numbers will take a backwards turn. Also 4 Day tickets did not sell out day one. It was months down the line

Here's Gen Con's press release on Gen Con 50.  Attendance was only up 4% from last year, which means people shouldn't really expect much difference in crowds next year.

Since 2016 attendance was relatively flat compared to 2015, that means Gen Con has been flirting with sellout crowds for 3 years now.  But now that they have sold out, I wonder if that will push more people to buy their badge early and we may be faced with sellouts going forward.  While SDCC and Gen Con are really two totally different types of cons, Gen Con is to gaming what SDCC is to pop culture.  So I wonder if they're headed down a similar path in regards to annual sell-outs and a rush to buy tickets.

So while giving his tours of the Horticultural Hall, Frank Mentzer said that this year's attendance was more like 75,000. Apparently the fire marshall doesn't want attendance over 60,000, so that's why that's what they hint at in their press release. But if you think about it, even if the convention center's capacity is 60,000, there is all of the stuff at Lucas Oil, and offsite hotels like Crowne Plaza and Westin... people are spread out and not everyone is in the convention center. I'd be more willing to believe 75,000. Personally, I noticed a lot less event availability, including less availability for generics and walkups... except at True Dungeon. This was the first year I personally witnessed unused TD spots being given away. Although I don't play it every day, so perhaps I just missed that for the first 2 years...?
