Traveling by air? TSA- Pre Check
« on: May 14, 2016, 08:27:15 AM »
Given the checked bag issues that are going on & the hellish lines i've had to get into for TSA this past year, i am applying for the TSA-Pre check.  It's $85 for 5 years & even tho i usually only fly a half doz time per year - it sounds like it's a no brainer

After Dr Who's recommendation earlier this year, my whole family did this. It is very worth it for the 5 year time period. I fly 5 or 6 times a year, so I will use it a lot.

Hmm that TSA Pre Check intrigues me. Anyone know if you can get that after you've already booked a flight?

i saw something abt that when i was making an appt for the application.

How do I add my KTN to previous reservations?

Contact your air carrier or visit their website to add your KTN to any previous reservations. The airline also can confirm that your first/middle/last name are in the correct Secure Flight fields. The KTN will be submitted along with Secure Flight passenger data to TSA. Remember to enter your full name, date of birth and KTN exactly as you provided during the TSA Pre✓® application process or when you enrolled in a CBP trusted traveler program.

You can. Once you get the KTN (your number) you have to call the airline and have them add it to your booking, then have them resubmit the reservation. I have done this twice now.

No. In fact, about a week after your appointment, you can go online and look up the status and the number will be there.

The hardest part was getting an appointment close to me.

I do not have access to find my original post but there are a few options for folks to look into.
1) Global Entry - background check is more intensive but easy if your criminal back is clear. Passing this will also give you TSA Precheck automatically. This is good if you are traveling international in the future.

2) TSA Precheck only. This is if you are not planning to travel internationally.

The costs between the 2 are small so if you plan on traveling internationally in the next 2 or 3 years I would recommend Global Entry.

I will say either one saves loads of time and hassle.

link for comparison of all programs-  global is $100, usa only is $85

i think this will also help with border crossings into Canada, & i guess Mexico too?  /sometimes the lines to get into Canada or back into the states are **long**/

Wow, the closest place to appy for GE is in Boston, a 3 hr drive away.  yeah, back to TSA precheck for me

Global entry is totally the way to go.  TSA pre and getting to skip customs when coming back into the country? No brainer.

yeah but it requires an interview which only seems to be available in major cities. if any one is interested in one of these, check available interview locations.
