Jim Lee was on hand but was not part of the ceremony. We were given a gold foil comic and the first day covers.  Jim Lee has produced another masterpiece with the cover of Wonder Woman Rebirth #1. img_3241

Speaking of comics, I had an opportunity to play with a new App for reading comics with the Oculus VR system.  I’m not sure I’m a fan of the idea. I like the immersion into the comic but the actual reading is a little on the difficult side.  It seem very well suited to a comic heavily dependent on visuals and not so much on the words.  The App I used was Madefire’s app and with their Motion Book format.  Keep in mind this is a new idea on how to present a story & is still in the early stages of development.  I can certainly see this format developing into some pretty amazing products.  Madefire just received another round of funding for further R&D. It’s worth keeping an eye on the new tech & if a chance presents it’s self- take a watch & let us know what you think.

I thought some folks might like to take a glimpse of what goes into providing geeks with information from a con. The picture to your left is most of the writers, 90% are quite & busy writing the articles and blog posts we all read & enjoy.  Outside this area are much larger number of press folks talking and some even doing interviews.  I had an opportunity to take a picture of the i09 system.

My next stop was my first press room.  I had applied to NYCC for press primarily on the basis of my involvement with the Englishman in San Diegos’ weekly Hangout, A Cup O’ Tea with an Englishman.  But once all the press releases started coming in, both me & the Editor of the FoCC blog started getting excited I decided to apply for a few press rooms.  Needless to say I was a bit on the nervous side going into my first one but I remembered my training in Theatre and with some help on the questions, I made it through in decent style. I’ll be doing a write up on the show Black Sail at a later date, suffice to say, it was a very interesting and informative time.  I was able to record the panel.

I’ll wrap up the day with a few pictures from the Black sails panel and Marvel’s Agents of Shield panel.

Alyssa bought her first comic at age 7 & was hooked. She has collected comics most of her life. Recently she has branched out to comic art and books and the occasional Lego. She goes to as many con's as she can & enjoys the 'long form' story telling of TV. She also enjoys new kinds of food- yes, she is a foodie.
