Like many of us who attend San Diego Comic Con each year, NerdHQ has been a ‘must-do’ event in the SDCC experience. The event has grown and transformed over the years however the basic foundation and spirit remained the same. It served a great “con-away-from-the-con” through the ‘Conversations for a Cause’ panels as well as served as a little oasis in the sea of offsite activities during SDCC.
Today, Zachary Levi announced on Twitter that NerdHQ at SDCC will not occur (click here to view the video announcement). This certainly creates a void in offsite planning for many of us. While the exact reason(s) are not known for cancelling the event this year we can only speculate but from what we do know through disclosures from Zachari Levi this event is a huge undertaking for him and his team but also a large financial investment in which the proceeds benefits Operation Smile.
All is not lost though. During the announcement Zachary mentioned that there will be further announcements in the coming weeks of events or activations in San Diego during SDCC. Stay tuned and as there are announcements we will pass along the details.
We know this may sad news to convey and sincerely hope NerdHQ makes a triumphant return to SDCC in 2018. In the spirit of positive vibes we do encourage donating to Operation Smile to show your support for this great cause.
Update 7/5 – Syfy released their panel schedule and within that release they mentioned that there will be not one but TWO fan parties held at the Children’s Museum. The parties will be held on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
Except from the release: SYFY fan parties! Stripping away the exclusivity of traditional Comic-Con parties, SYFY is throwing two nights of first-come-first-served bashes. Hosted at the Children’s Museum on Thursday, July 20 and Saturday, July 22, the themed parties feature photo booths, hourly surprises, live performances and more
