Next Week in TV 5/13: The Finales are Coming!

By Mario Wario, DRWHO42, and Alyssa

Please note: all times listed below are Eastern.

Using The Purge movie formula, the TV world witnessed the mass cancellation of The Expanse, Designated Survivor, Quantico, Lucifer, and Taken. Likewise, for The Exorcist, Great News, Alex, Inc, The Last Man on Earth, Scorpion, and The Mick. Even more are meeting the same fate as we speak, yet this annual bloodbath is nothing new in this industry, as each network usually meets with their advertisers during this time of the year. That being said, these shows could possibly return if another network/platform pick any of them up. For instance, Alcon Entertainment is looking for a new home for The Expanse and the same for the producers of Taken.

Yet not everything was dire last week: for example, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was revived by NBC after Fox cancelled it, while Fox revived Last Man Standing from the dead. Elementary was renewed for a seventh season and The Blacklist returns for a sixth.

As for the rest of this week, it is finale overload with a few premieres sprinkled in. Beginning tonight, the two-hour season finale of Timeless will air on NBC (and don’t forget to watch it live at 9pm, as well as using these hashtags on social media: #RenewTimeless, #Timeless, and #Clockblockers). Meanwhile, HBO will be airing the fifth season finale of Silicon Valley at 10:15pm, yet this will not be the final goodbye – a sixth season has been ordered by the cable network!

On Monday, Lucifer will be saying goodbye to its fans at 8pm on Fox. So, unless a new network/platform picks it up soon, this will be it for the series due to it being cancelled last week.

On Tuesday, New Girl wraps up for good with the one-hour series finale at 9pm on Fox.

The very next day, fans of The Blacklist can catch the fifth season finale at 8pm on NBC. Another fandom can catch the second season finale of Riverdale at 8pm, too, on The CW. Battlebots will begin its rule on the Science Channel at 9pm, yet Designated Survivor will air for one final time on ABC at 10pm. Of course, another network could save it as it was cancelled last week by ABC.

On Thursday, the DCTV universe sees Gotham (Fox) and Arrow (The CW) wrapping up their current seasons at their usual times, so do check out the listing below to know more. Staying with The CW, the undying Supernatural series will wrap up its thirteenth season at 8pm. Don’t worry, another season has been ordered for this fall.

On Friday, the season finale of NBC’s Blindspot will air at 8pm and the same for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD at 9:01pm but on ABC. (For Agents of SHIELD, don’t forget to use #RenewAgentsofSHIELD on social media, just keep your posts spoiler free.) Speaking of ABC, Once Upon a Time closes the book on its tale for good with the series finale airing at 8pm.

Not everything is ending though. For instance, the complete fourth season of Inspector Gadget premieres on Netflix in the morning, while the film Cargo has Martin Freeman dealing with zombies so do check them out.

Finishing the week, Saturday will see Fahrenheit 451 airing at 8pm on HBO. Then later that night, fans can catch the forty-third season finale of Saturday Night Live at 11:30pm, with Tina Fey and Nicki Minaj being the guests for this one.

As you can see, the finales are here with a vengeance and the cancellation/renewal news has just begun, so stay tuned to see if your favorite television series is coming back for another run. It is a crazy time with the increased TV related news and the FoCC forum is a great place to keep the TV chat going (clicking here). Also, do check out our picks (below this paragraph) to see what else we are watching, and to see the main listing as well. As always, happy viewing everyone!
