As fans expected back when WonderCon held lotteries for autograph signings back last spring, San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) has now opened up lottery entries for autograph signings for this year’s convention, which takes place July 19-22 (with Preview Night July 18). In previous years, fans would line up early to get into the Sails Pavilion, where they would participate in in-person drawings to see if they could win a spot at a coveted signing. Unfortunately, Comic Con International (CCI) was unhappy with the length of the lines, and some of the resulting problems. As such, they have partnered with the biggest exclusives retailers (including Hasbro, Funko and Lego) and the biggest autograph signings hosts (Warner Brothers, Fox and DC Comics) to offer an online lottery.
To participate in the lottery, sign into your Member ID account and click on the ‘Exclusives’ tab. If you are eligible to submit for exclusives, you will see a message in green and a button to link you to your unique Exclusives Portal. Once there, you must agree to terms and conditions individually for each signing, and then add the signing to your cart. Once you are finished submitting all signings (and exclusives) that you desire, submit your cart for processing. Once that is complete, you have entered the lotteries for those submitted items. The deadline to submit is July 12.
Within a few days after the deadline, CCI will then hold the lotteries, and attendees will be notified to look in their Member ID accounts/Exclusives Portals once more to determine if they have won any signings. Winners will be required to print out a confirmation and bring it, along with government-issued photo ID, to SDCC to redeem for their signings or exclusives buying slots.
