On the heels of this morning’s successful open registration sale for San Diego Comic Con 50 (SDCC) came the sad announcement that John Rogers, president of Comic Con International (CCI) had passed away from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. John was president of CCI (a position to which he was elected annually) since 1986, overseeing SDCC’s growth from a small con to the worldwide presence it is today. Fans will likely best remember John for his kind, patient persona, which he exhibited in spades every year at the Talkback panels at the end of SDCC and WonderCon, taking praise and abuse with equal consideration. John always made sure that fans were heard, and felt like someone cared about their experiences and opinions.
Rest in peace, John. You will be missed by anyone who has ever attended San Diego Comic Con or WonderCon, whether or not they ever had the chance to meet you personally.
