Next Week in TV 12/30: Ring in the New Year with the Doctor and More

By Mario Wario, DRWHO42, and Alyssa

Ready to usher in 2019 with a bang?

Then how about watching The Orville tonight on Fox at 8 p.m. ET, which marks the start of the show’s second season. Later in the week, the series returns to its Thursday time slot with another new episode at 9 p.m. Overall, what new adventures await the crew of the U.S.S. Orville?

On Monday, say goodbye to 2018 with the usual New Year’s Eve specials airing on ABC, Fox, NBC, CNN, as well as Fox News that night. As always, please celebrate safely and don’t drink and drive.

On Tuesday, get ready for the Rose Parade at 11 a.m. ET (which you can watch live on ABC, NBC, The Hallmark Channel, as well on the Univision network). Meanwhile, college football is going to rule the afternoon (ESPN/ESPN2 and ABC), while the third season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events airs in the morning. Or you could join the Doctor for another amazing adventure by watching the Doctor Who New Year’s Day special on BBC America at 8 p.m. ET. Lastly, Fox’s The Gifted is back from its winter hiatus with another brand new episode airing at 9 p.m.

On Thursday, The Big Bang Theory (CBS) and Gotham (Fox) both return to action at 8 p.m. ET, while Star Trek: Short Treks series goes back to CBSAA space dock at 9:30 p.m., which will conclude the show’s first season.

Netflix and Amazon will drop more content this Friday morning, while Saturday will see a few animated shows dominate the day: Bakugan (7 a.m. ET, Cartoon Network), Milo Murphy’s Law (7 a.m., Disney and Disney XD), and Transformers: Rescue Bots Academy (9 a.m., DFC).
