Next Week in TV 1/13: From the Classroom to the Stars

By DRWHO42, Mario Wario, & Alyssa

Get ready because the week ahead has a lot to offer that includes a trip to a special 1980s elite school, and a trek amongst the stars in 2225 aboard the Federation Starship Discovery. There’s also the return of one international criminal mastermind named Carmen Sandiego.

On Sunday, the highly anticipated return of True Detective sees Golden Globe winner Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage, Moonlight, Green Book) taking on the starring role for the third season. The story this season will take place over the span of thirty years, so this will be very interesting to see how the mystery unfolds out over the course of the season. Fans of the series are hoping this new year will rekindle the fire that made the series a sensational hit.

Sunday will also feature the return of PBS’ Victoria which stars Jenna Coleman. Yet in an unusual scheduling decision, ITV has not scheduled the UK airing date, so if you are a fan of the series in the US, be extra nice and try not to spill the beans to your friends/family in the UK. To close out Sunday, we will see the explosive season finale of Ray Donovan on Showtime.

Monday features a new series on Fox titled The Passage. Based on a trilogy of books from Justin Cronin, the series centers on a research experiment gone awry with the subjects turning into vampires. Scientists find a young orphan girl, who is immune to these vampires, which sets off a series of events.

Tuesday features the reboot debut of Rosewell, New Mexico. Check out our preview of the series written by Miclpea (click here).

Wednesday sees the highly anticipated debut of Deadly Class. The series, based on the graphic novel, centers on a teen who is recruited to attend a special private academy where the world’s top criminal families send their next generations. The visuals and music from the 80s will set the mood for this new show, which means it will be on the top of our watch list this week.

Thursday night will see the return of young Spock, thanks to the second season premiere of Star Trek: Discovery. Joining the cast this season are Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Tig Notaro as Jett Reno. Based on the trailers we’ve seen, this new version of Spock may be a little different from the other portrayals we have seen before. However, we are excited to see what this new year has in store!

The cap off the week is the return of Frank Castle as The Punisher on Netflix. If the first season is any indication, we should expect another exceptional season for this series.

So as you can see, there are plenty of content to watch/add to your viewing list. As for everything else not mentioned, we have the complete TV schedule listed below for your viewing. Of course, the TV discussion does not end here; it continues on the FoCC forum. Until next week, keep looking up to the stars or dance-off to those classic tones.
