Next Week in TV 2/10: A New Chapter for ‘The Walking Dead’ and Unlikely Team-Ups Abound

DRWHO42, Mario Wario, & Alyssa

The upcoming week will feature a return to the zombie apocalypse, and a coupe of unique team-ups. First up is the return The Walking Dead, which kicks off the second half of its epic ninth season. The mid-season premiere starts off with the communities mourning the tragic death of Jesus and must now put their differences aside to deal with the latest threat: The Whisperers. Fans of the series were not happy this week with the news of Danai Gurira planned departure at the conclusion of season 10. The series has never been shy to kill off its characters, especially fan favorites. However, there is a bit of a sigh of relief with the news of Gurira’s participation in the trilogy of Walking Dead TV movies, which will feature Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes return to the franchise. Michonne will live on (…for now).

Friday will be a great night to fire up DC Universe/Netflix streaming platforms to check out two very unique shows. First on our list is Doom Patrol, which features Timothy Dalton, Alan Tudyk, and Matt Boomer. The second series on our list is The Umbrella Academy, featuring Robert Sheehan, Ellen Page, and Mary J. Blige. Based on the trailers, and what we have read so far, we are very excited to see them both.

Another series to mark on your list for Fridays is Strike Back on Cinemax. This season has been exceptional so far and the action sequences have been top-notch. Each episode is like a movie and the filmed locations has added authenticity to this season’s storyline. A perfect example was the chase scene during the Holi festival through the streets of Goa, which was not only exciting, but quite colorful.

In other television news we learned courtesy of Mina Sundwall, Italia Ricci, and Kal Penn via Twitter, that filming for Lost in Space and Designated Survivor concluded this week. Both series will stream on Netflix yet no dates have been announced. Our guess will be fall or winter of 2019.

We are sad to learn the news that Legion and Into the Badlands will conclude its run at the end of its third season. According to the team at FX the initial plan for Legion was three seasons, however the news is still difficult to process for fans of the series. There are hints that Professor X will make an appearance at some point during the final season.

Looking back at Into the Badlands fans enjoyed the great fight sequences and vibrant costumes. Speaking of fight sequences, the series was not shy to show the gruesome effects of wounds either. The first eight episodes aired during 2018 and the remaining eight episodes will air beginning March 24. Conversely, fans of The Simpsons will be extremely happy with the news the series was been renewed for another two seasons.

Lastly, we want to mention important news for the new series Discovery of Witches. The series, which aired in the fall on Sundance Now and Shudder, had strong viewership which means AMC and BBC America have decided to broadcast the series starting on April 7th. The series will be paired with the second season of Killing Eve that will also be simulcast on AMC and BBC America.

That is all for this week. Please take a look at our picks and the listing located below. Don’t forget, the TV conversation never ends and we encourage you to join the conversation over on the FoCC forum.
