A new Funko store in Hollywood? Yes, it’s true!
Your favorite toy company, which has produced unique vinyl figures and bubbleheads of many different licensed properties since 1998, plans to open a giant store in Los Angeles, California later this year.
Hollywood Boulevard will be the location for the “nearly 40,000-square-foot store,” which will be near the TCL Chinese Theatre, as well as a neighbor to a Shake Shack and Soul Cycle. The reason for selecting this location, according to Funko CEO Brian Mariotti, is to bring both Angelenos and tourists into the store.
“So many people are looking for an experience when they shop — not just buying things … This is retail times pop culture,” Mariotti said to CNN Business.
The new location will let customers pose with “life-size Funko figures,” as well as allowing them to “sit in a toy version of the Batmobile.” Meanwhile, parts of the store are being built in Washington (with it all being shipped down to Los Angeles), although if the store turns out to be successful, Mariotti would also like to tackle Las Vegas, Tokyo, and London. As for the Southern California store itself, Mariotti wants the new location to open in time to celebrate Halloween.
If you didn’t know, Funko already has a smaller 17,000 square-foot store up in Everett, Washington. The store had its grand opening back in mid-2017 and this location is connected to the company’s corporate headquarters. If you are attending this year’s Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC), the drive up to Everett from Seattle takes about 33 minutes, if the road conditions are good on Interstate 5. Of course, it also depends how long you want to stay at the store. Be careful! There are so many neat items to buy there. (wink)
