Next Week in TV 6/30: Stranger Things with a dash of Instinct

By Alyssa, Mario Wario and DRWHO42

This time of the year is traditionally a light week, as we celebrate the birth of our nation; however, there’s one huge drop coming on Independence Day, and it is not fireworks. Yes, Stranger Things returns for season 3 on Thursday, July 4th at 3 a.m. ET on Netflix. Which leads us to pose a question to our loyal readers: binge or boom? Binge season 3 of Stranger Things then watch the local fireworks, or be restrained and only watch one/two episodes before watching the booms? Either way, the blog is sure that there will be will some binging and big boom watching this weekend.

There’s another show returning this week; CBS’ popular procedural series Instinct is back to give us more Alan Cummings and Bojana Novakovic. Their onscreen chemistry has been amazing to watch thus far. We also love the supporting cast, Alan’s husband played by Daniel Ings and the CIA contact played by Naveen Andrews. Overall, Instinct has added the right amount of grounding and humor, but the series’ smart writing has been refreshing to watch! The series itself returns for a second season later today at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Rook on Starz is a smart new spy thriller with an interesting/storytelling twist. Myfanwy Thomas, played by Emma Greenwell, wakes at the base of the “Millennium Bridge,” which has dead bodies, she has no recollection of this event. She is being pursued by shadowy paranormal adversaries while grappling with extraordinary abilities of her own. The series promises to resolve her past by the end of the first season. Although we are hearing that the series is a slow starter.

Another series of interest is Netflix’s The Last Czars, which will premiere this Wednesday morning (July 3rd). The new series should appeal to those that like historical dramas. Lastly, the US Soccer Women’s National Team takes on England this Tuesday, July 2nd at 3 p.m. ET on FOX. This is a semifinal match up.
