FoCC Reactor: A new suit for Supergirl and casting news from SDCC 2019

By DRWHO42

This upcoming season for Supergirl will certainly be exciting. We learned while during SDCC 2019 that there are a few changes for Kara and team.

First up are the threads! We learned today that Kara will be sporting a new Krypotinian supersuit! The new suit, conceptualized by Supergirl costume designer Victoria Auth and created by Ironhead Studios and Bill Hargates Costumes. This design looks great and I cannot wait to see it on the screen.

The second bit of news is the departure of Jimmy Olsen (played by Mechad Brooks) during the mid-point of this upcoming season. However, there is some good news for fans to help balance the departure with announcement of the Winn Schott (played by Jeremy Jordon) to National City.

Keeping with the casting news Julie Gonzalo and Staz Nair will be joining the cast this season.

A little more about these additions:

Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars, Dallas, Eli Stone) will star as iconic DC character Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata). A polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire, Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata) is now making a hostile advance into the world of media. Unapologetic and unafraid to make waves, she also holds a mystical secret. Gonzalo will first appear as Rojas in the season premiere on Sunday, October 6, at 9/8c on The CW.

Staz Nair, who many would recall playing Qhono, a Dothraki warrior loyal to Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, will play hardened reporter William Dey, an original character created for the series. On the surface, he’s a cynic and a sellout who looks down on Kara’s earnest idealism. Dey’s not interested in making friends, he just wants to get the story — but his ties to the criminal underworld could prove problematic. Nair (Game of Thrones, FOX’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, AMC’s Humans) as William Dey will also make his debut during the season premiere episode.

I had the pleasure of speaking with some of the cast and showrunners during SDCC and while they did not reveal too much about the upcoming season the showrunners did say that this season will focus on the use of technology with a little bit of a Black Mirror twist.

Supergirl returns for its fifth season on Sunday, October 6, at 9/8c on The CW.

Stay tuned for my follow-up article which will feature interviews with the cast of Supergirl.
