Long Beach Comic Con (LBCC) is coming back for another year of pop-culture filled fun, on the weekend of August 31st to September 1st. There will be over 100 different panels available, with talent from the world of comics, TV, movies, video games, and even outer space, with the STEM education Space Expo taking place at the convention. If that’s not enough, then attendees will be able to check out the world’s largest traveling geek film festival, with Marvel, DC, and Star Wars fan films, in addition to sci-fi and geek girls rock movies.
The guest I’m most excited to see is comic book writing superstar Mark Waid, who has just about done it all by working on Marvel, DC, Boom! Studios, and even Archie comics. Waid has won multiple Eisner Best Writer Awards for his masterful run on Daredevil, as well as for his work on Irredeemable and Incorruptible. His latest comics include the History of the Marvel Universe and Ignited, a new series from the company Humanoids, about the timely subject of gun violence in schools. Be sure to check out Mark Waid’s 50 in 50 panel, as he tries to answer fifty questions in fifty minutes about all things comic books!
If video games are your thing, come meet some of the voice acting stars behind Red Dead Redemption 2: Steve J. Palmer, Penny O’Brien, and Samantha Strelitz. Other notable guests include LBCC guest of honor Shea Fontana, who will be discussing her latest run on DC Super Hero Girls, Sam Jones – Flash Gordon (I can hear the awesome Queen song from the 1980 film in my head now), Scott Koblish – Deadpool artist, Scott Kolins – artist on the Flash, the Avengers, and Justice League, along with many other talented artists, writers, and celebrities.
Show hours are Saturday from 10am till 7pm, and Sunday from 11am until 5pm. Be sure to check out the cosplay contest on Saturday night at 6pm! A highlight of the Space Expo programming is the Woman of Space: Europa Clipper panel on Sunday at 10:30am, about the amazing women who are working on exploring Jupiter’s moons and the ocean that lies beneath the surface.
I’m looking forward to LBCC this weekend! What about you?
