San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) will be held July 23-26, 2020 (with Preview Night to be held on July 22). Fans have been waiting eagerly for open registration, in which anyone (excepting those who purchased a Preview Night badge in returning registration last month) with a valid Member ID account can participate. Comic Con International (CCI) has been using the same sale format for a few years now, and has it down to a science. As usual, the waiting room opened at 8:00 am Pacific time, and the sale began an hour later, at 9:00 am. Hopeful attendees were let into the buying screen starting at approximately 9:07 am.
In 2018, the badge sellout times in returning registration were faster than in 2017, while the open registration times were longer, leading to supposition that perhaps CCI had allocated more badges to open registration than returning registration. While this trend generally continued in 2019, there was another strange result. This year, Saturday and Friday lasted longer in returning registration, but Thursday and Sunday lasted longer in open registration.
Badge sellout times for returning and open registration were:
Preview Night – 9:21 am (returning registration) – 9:29 am (open registration)
Saturday – 9:41 am (returning registration) – 9:38 am (open registration)
Friday – 9:48 am (returning registration) – 9:45 am (open registration)
Thursday – 9:56 am (returning registration) – 10:00 am (open registration)
Sunday – 9:49 am (returning registration) – 10:06 am (open registration)
