Next Week in TV 1/12: The Magicians, Crisis on Infinite Earths Returns

By Scott, DRWHO42, and Alyssa

With 2020 in full swing, many TV series will either be returning from their winter hiatus or debuting for the first time.

The Arrowverse, for example, will see the return of the crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, with part four (Arrow) and five (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) airing back-to-back this Tuesday night on The CW.

On Thursday, fans of Supernatural will see the continuation of the series’ final season, thanks to its winter hiatus being over.

The CW itself last week renewed thirteen series, which includes many of its current DC shows. It is interesting to note that with the Writers Guild of America contract talks quickly approaching, the network was probably staying ahead of the game by renewing every series they got, just in case a work stoppage happens. It is all about minimizing any possible impact a work stoppage can have on a current series in early 2020, by getting storylines planned and scripts prepared for the next season.

Speaking of renewal news, NBC announced yesterday that a three-season renewal for New Amsterdam is happening. This is a huge vote of confidence for the medical series and the cast, including Freema Agyeman, who were celebrating the news on Twitter.

HBO’s The Outsider, based on the same novel by Stephen King, will debut on Sunday, the series stars Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One, Rogue One) who plays a cop named Ralph Anderson. The character will take on the task of investigating the gruesome murder of a young boy, who will face ‘supernatural forces’ along the way.

Syfy’s The Magicians returns this Wednesday night, and this fifth season is ready to take all of us on a great adventure.

Football will continue to be the talk of the town thanks to the NFL Playoffs currently happening as of this writing, as well as the College Football Playoff Championship Game being this Monday night. The championship game will see #1 LSU face off against #3 Clemson. One particular FoCC writer who shall remaining nameless is hoping for an LSU victory, so Geaux Tigers!

As for everything else airing soon, do take a look at this week’s TV listing below. Do let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum.
