Next Week in TV 1/19: The triumphant return of Picard

By DRWHO42, Scott, and alyssa

The upcoming week in TV feature an assortment of great options to choose from including the epic return of a Starfleet legend to the supernatural.

First up on Sunday is the battle on the football field which will determine which teams will play in the Superbowl. The matchups are exciting we anticipate fireworks both defensively and offensively. Later Sunday evening 9-1-1 spin off, 9-1-1: Lone Star, will start off a two-night series premiere. The series, which stars Rob Lowe as a NYC firefighter who is moves to Austin Texas to build up an Emergency Service Unit) and Liv Tyler, looks to continue the same adrenaline-filled excitement as its mothership series. Also on Sunday evening,

Doctor Who continues to chart out new and exciting adventures in time and space. Last week ‘The Fam’ were transported to a tranquil resort planet only to learn that their surroundings deceptively concealed that they were in-fact on Earth in the distant future and the planet was inhabited by hostile aliens. This week the team travels back in time and will meet Nikola Telsa (played by ER and Timeless alum Goran Visnjic).

Avenue 5 may be a worthwhile addition to your list with its comedic blend on a luxury liner in outer space. Hugh Laurie (House M.D.) is the lead for this series and is perfectly cast for this role which takes advantage on his keen ability to mix dry humor, snark, and sarcasm.

Looking back to last week, Crisis on Infinite Earths concluded and it was an epic teamup unlike any other seen before on television. There were a few surprises which they were able to keep secret until airing (no spoilers). If you missed the crossover event or want to relive the excitement all five episodes are available to stream on the CW App or online. .Also, stay tuned for an upcoming recap article of the crossover from Scott. As we look to this week the hero teams are now back to the crime fighting schedule with Batwoman, Supergirl, and Black Lightning kicking of their winter premieres.

Mark your Stardates for 73528.6 (Thursday evening) as CBS All Access will teleport viewers into the distant future in the highly anticipated Picard. The series will not only see Patrick Stewart return to the Trek franchise but it he will have a few friends including Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Data (Brent Spiner), and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). Feedback for those who have seen it has been positive.

Netflix will offer viewers a triple dose of supernatural adventures with the series premieres of October Faction and Ghost Bride as well as the third season premiere of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Lastly, we learned this week the news of HBO plans to leave Watchman as a singular season after Damon Lindelof decided step away from his role overseeing the series. While fans are disappointed with this news there are a number of people and celebrities who voiced their agreement with the decision on the premise that it was a nicely packaged story with a suitable ending.

That’s all for now. Happy watching and join the conversation on the FoCC Forum
