The CW has announced their lineup plans for fall 2020 and January 2021, and there are a few surprises in store for fans including a smaller-scale crossover event – more on that in a bit.
First, the big news is that the majority of the scripted series, which would have kicked off the Fall 2020 season including The Flash, Black Lightning, Batwoman, Legacies, and Riverdale, will not premiere until January 2021. And then we have news that Supernatural will finish its run this fall due – due to the delay in production.
The overall fall schedule will see a mixture of series, which typically run during the summer, such as The Outpost, but there will also be a few acquired series to look forward to like the Canadian series Coroner along with Tell Me a Story (from CBS All Access) and Swamp Thing (from DC Universe).
New to the lineup in 2021 will be Jared Padalecki’s Walker and the highly anticipated return of Superman to the television screen in Superman & Lois. Supergirl’s return was not mentioned in the today’s announcements and there is speculation this is due to accommodate Melissa Benoist’s pregnancy. We do anticipate an announcement later in the summer or early fall on the return date for Supergirl.
The Arrowverse will still have an annual crossover event, thankfully, but it will be smaller in scale, with the announcement of a crossover between Batwoman and Superman & Lois, although we will not be surprised if the creative teams add more to this crossover event or have more crossovers planned this upcoming season.
Lastly, there was no official word on the Canary spinoff yet, but we are hopeful it will get an official pickup sometime in the not so distant future.
