Netflix Announces the Return of The Umbrella Academy
by Miclpea
Netflix announced July 31, 2020, for the Season 2 premiere of The Umbrella Academy. The announcement was in the form of a brilliantly edited dance video that is reminiscent of the dance sequence from Season One that features each member of the Hargreeves clan dancing together. This wonderful sequence demonstrates how many in the industry have adapted to the safety protocols in place due to the pandemic (see below).
The Umbrella Academy is about a group of 43 infants who were born on the same day in 1989. What is strange is that the infants were born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy before the day of birth. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. In Season One, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse which one of them might actually cause.
The series, starring Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, and Adam Godley, is based on The Umbrella Academy comic books that were created and written by Gerald Way. The comic series was illustrated by Gabriel Bá and published by Dark Horse Comics.
The second season promises to be as exciting as the first season with the addition of new cast members Ritu Arya (Humans), Yusef Gatewood (Good Omens), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete). Hopefully, viewers will discover why Sir Reginald Hargreeves chose those seven to be saviors of the planet.
