Next Week in TV 7/12: Worlds are set to collide with Snowpiercer, Brave New World, and Cursed

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The past week in TV news was not quiet thanks to big news from Netflix and Warner Bros. First with the good news: there will be a sixth season of The Crown. During the planning of the fifth season, the series creator Peter Morgan realized there is a lot they would like to accomplish before the series ends, and a sixth season would be necessary to fulfill his plans. So, Netflix agreed to more content to aid the story, thus reversing the previous decision to wrap the series up after the fifth season. Also, Warner Bros. announced that actress Javicia Leslie is the new lead for Batwoman (for more on this announcement, click here).

And in other good news, television production is starting to ramp up, and based on reports on War of the Worlds, it will be one the first series in the UK to recommence filming. Production for all in Canada may soon be back as well once the cast and crews have emerged from their self-imposed quarantines.

Now to the bad news: Netflix has made it known that The Chilling Tales of Sabrina will conclude at the end of Part 4, which will air later this year. This cancellation will be unfortunate news for fans who were hoping for a Riverdale and Sabrina crossover that was aiming to occur during Part 5, so there goes that idea. But there is some solace in knowing that the series will possibly continue in comic book form.

Looking to the week ahead, TBS’s Snowpiercer will wrap up its first season with a two-hour season finale this Sunday night on TNT. This season has exceeded expectations and offered viewers a very engaging look at life onboard a 5 miles plus long perpetually circling train that is going around the frozen Earth. Luckily for fans, the series scored an early second season renewal, so we only will have to wait patiently until next year for the series to return. Let’s hope the ongoing pandemic doesn’t interfere with the series’ production.

Then we have NBC Universal’s Peacock streaming platform debuting this week, and we are very curious to explore all of the offerings it has. Right out of the gate, the series Brave New World, which tells the story of people who live in a futuristic utopian city of New London, will be on the top of our viewing list due to its story. Thus, we recommend that you check the new series out this Wednesday morning if possible.

Later in the week, we see Cursed debuting on Netflix. This new series is a retelling of the legendary Excalibur and mystical Lady of the Lake storylines. So, check this one out as well.

If you have not had the opportunity to watch The Old Guard, which the blog touched upon in last week’s TV article, please do so now because it has all of the attributes checked for an enjoyable popcorn-fueled action movie. For example, it has several cool action sequences with the talented Charlize Theron starring in the film.

So, what are you watching this week? Please join the TV conversation over on the FoCC forum to let us know!
