Next Week in TV 7/19: A new Chapter for The Alienist and Farewell to Blindspot

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The 2020 summer television and streaming offerings have provided us with great adventures to enjoy so far, such as giving us Warrior Nun, the ongoing final season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELDThe Old GuardSnowpiercer, Perry MasonNOS4A2Cursed, and the second season of Hanna. Now, a few great options are hitting TVs this week with the sophomore season of The Alienist airing on TNT on Sunday and Signs debuting on Netflix this Wednesday.

The blog is excited for the return of the turn of the century mystery series, The Alienist. In this second season, Sarah Howard (Dakota Fanning) will try to fulfill a promise who reaches out to her former team, Dr. Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) and John Moore (Luke Evans), to help find the missing child of a Spanish dignitary. Based on the trailer, we should expect another intriguing and dark season as the new mystery unfolds.

Blindspot sets off into the sunset this week with its 100th and final episode. The series, which stars Jamie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton, that was based on a unique premise of an amnesiac woman found inside of a bag within New York’s Times Square. Alexander’s character has a unique set of skills while working with the FBI to uncover the mystery of her identity. The series evolved into an engaging counter-terrorism series infused with puzzle-solving, hacking, and international filming locations, such as trips to South Africa, Venice, and Machu Pichu. The writers of the series kept viewers on the edge of their seats with great plot twists, which included clandestine operations, sleeper agents, plots to hijack and crash Air Force One, and much more. (Click here for one of our earlier articles on the series ahead of the fourth season, which included interviews with series leads Jamie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton; an excursion with Alexander and her stunt double, Heidi Germaine Schnappauf, for a sword-fighting lesson.)

In television news, Hanna (Amazon Prime) is getting a third season, thanks to a recent series renewal. Sadly, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier’s August debut is a no go, although Marvel Studios is still moving ahead with its plans for WandaVision to debut this December.

Lastly, this week would have been an exciting week with the world of fandom meeting in San Diego for Comic-Con 2020. However, the ongoing pandemic has other plans, so no in-person meetings, but that did not stop the organizers from transitioning the con to a virtual event. The lineup looks good, and hopefully, it will fill the void in our hearts to some degree.

And some things we are looking forward to this week is an update to The Walking Dead season finale airing date and other news about the franchise itself. News on Star Trek: Picard‘s second season, the newly commissioned Strange New Worlds, Amazon Prime’s Utopia and The Boys, and more. Now, the additional bonus of having a virtual event is that many of us will not have to endure the long lines and sleep deprivation to attend the panels, or to purchase the exclusive items.

Well, that is all for now, and until next week, keep looking up, everyone, and stay safe!
