Walking Dead Universe SDCC @Home Reveals

by Transmute Jun

SDCC @Home is happening right now, and Friday, July 24 was an exciting day for Walking Dead fans! AMC hosted 3 separate hour-long panels for The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and the upcoming The Walking Dead: The World Beyond. Each panel was hosted by Chris Hardwick and featured the showrunners of the various series and Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple, along with a wide variety of cast members.  These panels are still available on Youtube for viewing.

Most importantly for fans, announcements were made as to when we can expect to see each show on the air. First up is The Walking Dead, which will air its final season 10 episode (whose production was delayed due to the COVID-19 shutdowns) on Sunday, October 4 at 8:00 pm Eastern time. Immediately following the show will be the premiere episode of The Walking Dead: The World Beyond, at 9:00 pm Eastern. Finally, after World Beyond, Chris Hardwick will host a ‘mega-episode’ of Talking Dead, covering both series. The following week, on Sunday, October 11. Fear the Walking Dead will air its season 6 premiere. There is no word yet on whether or not Fear and World Beyond will both continue to air on Sundays, or on different nights. During the Fear panel, it was revealed that the COVID-19 shutdown occurred just as they were finishing up the first half of season 6, and there are still a few scenes left to film, once such activities are able to resume. Despite this, that first half of the season will air. A new teaser trailer was released for Fear season 6, highlighting a more horror-filled atmosphere for the upcoming season.

Most exciting of all, Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang announced an additional 6 episodes of Season 10, to follow after the ‘season finale’. These new episodes will be aired early next year.

On the sad side, the TWD Rewards program run by AMC is apparently being discontinued as of September 26, 2020, as per a banner announcement on their website. There is no word yet as to the reasons for closing down the program.
