Next Week in TV 8/16: A Supernatural Journey and the Return of Lucifer!

By DRWHO42 and Scott C.

If you are looking for something to jazz up your week, the upcoming week on TV will be like a jolt of espresso. On the top of our lists is the return of the fan-favorite Lucifer along with the highly anticipated debut of a certain supernatural series: Lovecraft Country.

Lucifer is the series that keeps on ticking after finding life on Netflix. The series keeps finding ways to extend its runs, and did so once again just as we thought the series was winding down for good. From the look of things, the blog anticipates the series will continue to buck convention if the viewership numbers remain strong. If you have not had the opportunity to check this series out, now is the time to sneak away from life and binge on the earlier seasons. You won’t regret it. The series itself is pure entertainment.

HBO ventures back into the world of the supernatural on Sunday night (9 p.m. ET) with the series debut of Lovecraft Country. The series is based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff of the same name and centers on the character of Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), who joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance). They will embark on a road trip across the 1950s Jim Crow America, in search of Freeman’s missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This series touches on a unique premise as the characters struggle to survive and overcome both racial strife and terrifying monsters. You can check out the teaser trailer by clicking here

The Netflix lineup, meanwhile, continues to deliver unique and impressive content. The latest additions hitting later this week are High Score (Wednesday, August 19th) and Biohackers (Thursday, August 20th)High Score is a documentary about classic video games; it provides an insightful look at some of our favorite games featuring interviews with the creative minds behind each one.

With the lull in US-produced shows, now is an opportunity to explore internationally produced content. International shows such as DarkThe Rain, and Money Heist offer unique perspectives and storytelling that should entertain many. Biohackers, as mentioned earlier, debuts this week, and it is a German import like Dark. The series is a medical drama that centers on a medical student who goes on a secret mission to solve a mystery tied to her family. Sounds like a fun show, no? The blog thinks so; check it out.

That’s all from us for now, but there is plenty to check out based on the listing below. So, happy viewing!

Nicky thinks the miscasting of Vince Vaughn as Tanadaal in the “Kingdom Scrolls” movie is an international outrage. And Usman has made a plywood lid for his child’s playpen, so he can play the game in peace. Oh, and Nicky definitely isn’t into Meg. That would be a cliché.
