The week ahead in TV and streaming will be filled with many options to choose from, including the Disney+ (Premier Access) premiere of Mulan (Friday, September 4th), the return of The Boys on Amazon Prime (Friday, September 4th), and the intriguing new series from Ridley Scott titled Raised by Wolves (Thursday, September 3rd) on HBO Max.
The top highlight in the schedule for this week is a tie between Raised by Wolves and the return of The Boys. Ridley Scott’s foray into television kicks off this week with a series about a colony of children raised on an alien world by two androids. The Boys returns for its second season this week, which means we are very excited to see anti-supes gang once again, including the foul-mouthed Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the heroes of The Seven including Homelander (Anthony Starr). The blog team got an early peek at season two, and we highly recommend reading our non-spoiler review by Miclpea (click here). Of course, we are already aware of the season three renewal, and we were also excited with the announcement that Jenson Ackles is joining the series next season. Lastly, both series above will follow the same release schedule with the first three episodes released this week in the morning, and shift to a weekly release schedule until their respective season finales.
Later in the week, Netflix’s latest drama, Away, a highly recommended series to watch by the blog, which stars Hillary Swank. It tells the story of astronauts on a three-year mission to Mars and the families they have to leave behind while on their mission of exploration. So, check it out when it is released the morning of September 4th.
While we generally write about TV, film productions have also been affected by the pandemic which resulted in delays of upcoming movie releases such as Tenet (which is finally out now in the U.K.; the United States on September 3rd, 2020) and Wonder Woman 1984 (the film itself is scheduled to be released this October 2nd, 2020). The studios have adapted with a shift in distribution to a straight-to-home model such as the recently release Bill & Ted Face the Music (see our review here). Disney’s Mulan, which was to be released this past March, will be made available on Disney+ this Friday morning for $29.99, just in time for the Labor Day weekend. Now, fans must also have a Disney+ subscription to watch the movie. Mulan will be made available for free to all Disney+ subscribers on December 4th, 2020.
Before we go, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the recent passing of actor Chadwick Boseman. The actor’s cancer fight was not publicly disclosed; and the news of his passing sent shock waves throughout the acting community as well as the world of fandom. As such, we should celebrate in what he did for the movie and fan communities. Great examples include his hosting of screenings of Black Panther for children, and what he brought to life on the big screen in films, including 42, Black Panther, Da 5 Bloods, Captain America: Civil War, and The Avengers movies: Infinity War and Endgame.
To commemorate Boseman’s role as Black Panther, ABC will air the commercial-free version of Black Panther on Sunday, August 30th, along with a tribute special. It all begins at 8 p.m. ET. Overall, rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. We will never forget you, your works, and your great personality. Wakanda Forever!
