Next Week in TV 9/27: So long to The 100!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

Fall is in full swing, which means that there are some series premieres on the horizon.

The Sunday Fox animation block, however, returns to action with The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers. Also, on Sunday evening, a new chapter of Fargo begins with Chris Rock leading the cast.

The 100 series comes to a close this week on The CW. This groundbreaking series is about a group of children chosen to return to the Earth’s surface from an arc in space after an apocalyptic event; the series itself is a compelling story of survival, redemption, and acceptance. The characters faced many physical, social, and mental challenges along the way, and there were several instances where the struggle for survival was not always successful.

We should praise the writers of The 100 for developing multi-dimensional characters; each one faced internal demons or found themselves compromising their moral compass later. This led to great storytelling as a result.

The acting by the cast was stellar, too. As such, the portrayals led to a loyal fanbase, which led to many connections with Eliza Taylor’s Clark Griffin, Bob Morley’s Bellamy, Lindsey Morgan’s Raven, Christopher Larkin’s Monty; and Marie Avgeropoulos’s Octavia. For instance, during past San Diego Comic-Con visits, the blog saw that loyal fanbase in action at The 100 panels or those cosplaying as their favorite character at the convention. Overall, kudos to a great run to The 100

The addictive Ridley Scott series, Raised by Wolves, wraps up its first season on Thursday, October 1, on HBO Max. The series itself exceeded many expectations like ours. It has an intriguing story of survival set on a distant planet after the destruction of Earth. The series is a standout not only for its premise but also for the acting by Amanda Colin (Mother) and Abubakar Salim (Father), both play as androids in a unique and impressionable manner. Thus, the blog can hardly wait for what will happen next in the upcoming second season.

To cap off the week, Saturday Night Live returns to action with host Chris Rock kicking off the new season. The show will return to the studio for the first time since March of this year, and it will also include a live audience. According to reports, safety protocols and testing will be adopted to ensure everyone in the studio will be safe from the ongoing pandemic.

In television news, there were a few shockers. First, the good news: Disney+ is working on a Nick Fury series featuring Samuel L. Jackson. As the news broke, many social media platform users were buzzing about the announcement by showing their excitement for the project. Then we had Batwoman star Javica Leslie providing a glimpse of what she will look like in her batsuit. Production, meanwhile, has resumed for ManifestLucifer, and This is Us. Amazon Prime has also given the green light for a spinoff of The Boys, which will focus on college students with superpowers. Finally, Family Guy and Bob’s Burger received two-season renewals.

Now to the not so good news: the blog has recently learned that the upcoming sixth season of Supergirl is its last. We also learned that Liv Tyler opted out of 9-1-1: Lone Star due to logistical challenges thanks to the pandemic.

That’s all for this week. So, what are you watching? Let us know when visiting the FoCC forum!
