Next Week in TV 10/18: Lovecraft Country Goes, Roald Dahl’s The Witches Comes In, and More!

By Scott C. & DRWHO42

A new week is officially here, and starting tonight (Sunday, October 18th), HBO’s weird and entertaining Lovecraft Country horror series sees its first season wrapping up at 9 p.m. ET. Fans of the show are still awaiting word regarding a second season so far, so stay tuned to the blog for an update about that piece of news whenever it hits the internet.

The sports world welcomes Game 1 of the MLB World Series this Tuesday, October 20th, on FOX (and the time of the game is listed below in the listing). The AL Champions Tampa Bay Rays are in the World Series already after beating the Houston Astros. The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, meanwhile, have an NLCS winner-take-all Game 7 matchup to complete tonight (Sunday at 8 p.m. ET).

On the morning of Thursday, October 22nd, HBO Max has a new movie to watch: Roald Dahl’s The Witches. This dark fantasy film stars Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Octavia Spencer, and it tells a story of a young orphaned boy who goes to live with his loving grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis in late 1967. They both meet some “diabolical witches” along the way. The world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow members to do one thing for her: to carry out her “nefarious plans.” The movie itself is based on the novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, and the new movie is a second adaptation of the book. The 1990 film had actress Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch.

Borat returns to action this Friday morning, October 23rd, on Amazon Prime to do his usual silly antics in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

And lastly, Star Trek: Discovery is officially getting a fourth season by CBS All Access, and production of season four will begin this November 2nd!
