Next Week in TV 10/25: Mando and The Child are Back!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The last week of October is upon us, and in addition to Halloween quickly approaching, we also have daylight saving time ending soon (November 1st) and a full moon to view this upcoming weekend, too.

The week in TV itself will also feature several things, including the return of the popular NBC drama, This is Us, and the light-hearted Superstore. The second season of Ghosts premieres on HBO Max this week, as well as ABC’s American Housewife with its 5th season debuting on this network, while The Eric Andre Show and Dream Corp LLC, they both return this week to Adult Swim.

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant head up the new HBO series: The Undoing. This David E. Kelley series centers on a family that begins to unravel when the wife (Nicole Kidman) learns of her husband’s (Hugh Grant) involvement in a series of events that leads to something disastrous. So, check it out.

Since this is Halloween week, after all, there will be plenty of offerings to check out for yourself and your family, including the HBO Max Sesame Street special: The Monster at the End of This Story.

Do know that the annual airing of the Peanut’s Halloween special has moved from its traditional home of ABC to Apple TV+. Luckily, fans of the Halloween special will be able to watch it for free; however, it will be behind a pay-wall in the near future.

The morning of Friday, October 30th, has been the day that has been marked off for the vast number of Mandalorian fans as this day will kick off the second season of this highly popular Star Wars television series. Overall, bring on The Child, and more bounty hunting mayhem, once more!

Now, looking back at what else is airing currently, we strongly recommend adding Helstrom (Hulu) and The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix) to your viewing list. Both are pretty good, entertaining shows. Helstrom‘s release was timed perfectly for the Halloween season as it tells the story of a brother and sister fighting an endless swarm of demons. Of course, there was a lot to unpack during the ten episodes of the first season, which included demonic possessions, exorcisms, secret organizations, and much more supernatural craziness. The Queen’s Gambit is a limited-run series that is about an orphaned chess wiz, and is based on the novel of the same name.

In some recent television news, many TV production teams are continuing to go back to work and they are working tirelessly to get things done as quickly as possible due to the long (pandemic induced) delay.

We recently learned that Star Trek: Discovery was given the green light to do a fourth season and production of that season will begin early next month. Now, based on the first two episodes of this young third season, the blog feels that the series is firing on all cylinders (or phasers) with good writing and acting so far, with the usual stunning special effects. The time jump has helped the showrunners move away from certain Star Trek boundaries of the franchise’s canon world to carve out a new and interesting story. The show itself has gone where no Star Trek series has gone before.

Lastly, Netflix, unfortunately, has decided to scrub the second season of the astronaut TV drama Away. This series has built up a loyal fan base, though, which was keenly interested in seeing the continuation of the Mars mission, as well as the return trip home. Hopefully, we haven’t seen the last of this series; maybe another network or streaming platform will pick it up later, but we shall see.

That is all for now. Have a happy and safe Halloween, everyone! This is the Way!
