Next Week in TV 1/3: Kicking off 2021 with The Watch, Coyote, and A Discovery of Witches!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

2021 is officially here, and as such, there is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming weeks and months. First up is the several winter premieres kicking off the week with a bang, which will offer exciting stories and adventures to escape the daily (pandemic) grind.

This Sunday night sees The Watch premiere with two back-to-back episodes on BBC America. This supernatural series, which follows a ragtag group of cops, features a few familiar faces, including Richard Dormer (from Game of Thrones) and Wendel Pierce (Jack Ryan). Later on Sunday night, The Rookie itself returns for its third season on ABC.

As we mentioned, we have several winter premieres hitting the airwaves this week, including This is UsLaw and Order: SVU, Blue BloodsBullAll RiseNCISNCIS: Los Angeles, and the Chicago shows: MedFire, and PD.

This Thursday night on CBS All Access will be a marquee night for fans of the series Star Trek: Discovery. The series itself wraps up its third season, sadly. This season has opened up a whole new avenue (stories) for the series itself, for the franchise to explore later. As such, bring on the upcoming fourth season! Oh, you are wondering about the season four premiere date? Well, we are still awaiting word on that piece of information from CBS. Production on season four, though, is currently underway, and that process began back in November.

Thursday night will also feature the returns of Ted Danson and Michael Chiklis to network television. First up is Mr. Mayor, which features Ted Danson as a LA Mayor alongside Holly Hunter, his main competitor in the new show. The series itself looks to be funny; it should brighten things up in the evening for you. Later that night, we have Coyote, and it sees Michael Chiklis portraying a border patrol agent; his character must work for a Mexican cartel group due to ‘certain’ circumstances. Yes, this is a spoiler-free zone.

The extended wait for the return of A Discovery of Witches ends this week, as its second season kicks off on Sundance Now / AMC+ streaming platforms; however, there is still no word on when it will air on AMC.

Lastly, the Discovery family of networks enters the streaming game (war) with discovery+ launching on January 4th. As expected, there is a healthy slate of initial offerings during the first week of launch. The listing below has a few shows listed to get you going.

So, what will you be watching next week? Do let us know what you’ll be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. Also don’t forget that the rest of the TV schedule is listed below.
