Next Week in TV 1/31: Adventures in Space and Chasing Mythical Creatures!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

We are pretty much through the first month of 2021, and we also now know who will be facing off in the next Super Bowl. But we have one more week to wait before the big game airs, which will feature the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going against last year’s Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

As for the week ahead in TV, there still be a few options to add to your viewing list.

For instance, HBO’s The Investigation is a dramatization series about the story behind the murder of journalist Kim Wall, which garnered attention everywhere in 2017. The trailer for this series gives us the same look and feel like 2019’s Chernobyl HBO series. As such, we are adding this new series to our recommendation list for this week, and we think you should do the same. Do know that this new series was written and directed by Tobias Lindholm, and debuts this Monday, February 1st, on HBO at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Mid-week (Tuesday, February 2nd) we have The Expanse wrapping up its fifth season on Amazon Prime at 7:30 p.m. ET, with one more (final) season on deck for this epic space tale. Currently, season six has no official release date.

So far, Netflix has laid the groundwork for identifying great content both domestically and internationally. The Rain, Biohackers, Money Heist, Paranormal, and Lupin are great examples that come to mind. This week has Invisible City, and it centers on a man who learns of mythical creatures living among humans, so sign us all up for this brand-new series due to capturing our curiosity.

The movie Space Sweepers, which is about four misfits discovering volatile secrets during an attempted trade of a wide-eyed humanoidis in 2092, is also a recommended addition to your viewing list. Both this and Invisible City are debuting this Friday morning, February 5th, on Netflix.

HBO Max has been building their library lately, and this past week, they added the landmark sci-fi series Babylon 5 (with enhancements for coloring and picture quality), and Pushing Daisies. Also, fans waiting for the Snyder Cut of Justice League have something exciting to look forward to with the film hitting the streaming platform on March 18th. By the way, if you have HBO as part of your cable/satellite package, you get HBO Max for free. Also, know that Godzilla Vs. Kong debuts simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters on March 31st in the United States. So, get ready for awesome new content hitting HBO Max soon.

In some recent entertainment news, Netflix has announced that Lupin returns sometime this summer, with five more episodes to watch. The series itself has been on Netflix’s top 10 list so far.

Warner Bros. is staging a mini Game of Thrones reunion with Charles Dance and Gwendoline Christie joining a project. Both are now part of the cast of the highly anticipated comic book adaption of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. They will be joining Tom Sturridge (Sweetbitter) and Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches), with more casting news to drop later.

Netflix also announced the premiere date of April 23rd for a new fantasy series, Shadow & Bone. The series, which is based on Leigh Bardugo’s worldwide bestselling Grishaverse novels, transports viewers to a fantasy world similar to Russia. Yet the story is about a lowly soldier and orphan, Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), who finds out that she has an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting a country free. However, as she struggles to hone in her powers, she will also find out that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems.

Lastly, NBC’s The Blacklist will have a ninth season, after all, which was good to hear.

That is all for now. As always, please let us know what you’ll be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. Plus, don’t forget that the rest of the TV schedule is listed below.
