Next Week in TV 4/18: Fight on With Mortal Kombat and Shadow and Bone, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Finale is Coming!

By Scott C. & DRWHO42

Just like that, the month of April is already halfway done.

And speaking of being done, the first season of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ends this Friday morning, April 23rd. This second MCU series has been quite good thus far in the blog’s opinion; hopefully, the finale sticks the landing. By the way, there has been no announcement (yet) regarding a second season being greenlit by Marvel Studios.

Friday also sees HBO Max (and US theaters) being a place to watch Mortal Kombat. This movie is based on the video game franchise of the same name by Ed Boon and John Tobias and is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie franchise itself. The movie is about a young hero learning his heritage, who is being hunted down by Outworld, while also finding friends along the way. Oh, a battle for the universe is on too. Lastly, Mortal Kombat was directed by Simon McQuoid and is rated R.

Staying with Friday, Netflix has Shadow and Bone debuting. This fantasy series is about dark forces conspiring against an orphan named Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) when she “unleashes an extraordinary power that could change the fate of her war-torn world.” The blog will be checking this series out to be sure!

In some TV news, fans of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow found out very recently that actor Dominic Purcell (who plays Mick Rory/Heatwave) is leaving the series as a regular for now. The CW series itself was renewed in February for the seventh season. The upcoming sixth season will debut on May 2nd, 8 p.m. ET.

The upcoming Lord of the Rings Amazon series will cost $465 million. Yes, that is just for one season. Yes, the cost is a TV record-breaker. For instance, according to The Hollywood ReporterGame of Thrones cost HBO around $100 million per season.

Netflix, meanwhile, has renewed Bridgerton for two seasons (3 and 4), while CBS renewed NCIS for a 19th season. CBS also renewed Magnum PIBlue BloodsBull, and S.W.A.T.

That is all for this week! Until next time, please let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Don’t forget to look at our picks and the listing below!
