Next Week in TV 5/16: Finales, M.O.D.O.K., Solos, Army of the Dead, and More!

By Scott C. & DRWHO42

There is a lot airing this week on TV, plus tons of TV news to mention too.

Let’s begin with HBO and its Nevers series entering a mid-season break on Sunday, May 16, at 9 p.m. ET. The airing date for the second half of season one has not yet been scheduled, so stay tuned to the blog for the latest on that topic.

Also, on Sunday is the 19th season finale of the popular animated series Family Guy over on Fox at 9:30 p.m. ET. Season twenty, though, will debut on August 20th, 2021.

ABC’s Rookie concludes its third season at 10 p.m. ET on Sunday. Luckily, the series was recently renewed by the network, so more Rookie fun incoming!

ABC’s Black-Ish also concludes its seventh season on Tuesday, May 18th, at 9 p.m. ET. Do note that the series was renewed for one more season, which will be its last. Meanwhile, Mixed-Ish was not renewed by ABC, so this Tuesday (9:30 p.m.) will be it for the show.

The other ABC show, The Goldbergs, wraps up its eighth season on Wednesday, May 19th, at 8 p.m. ET. But there will be a season nine as ABC renewed the series very recently.

As for everything else ending for a bit or for good, the TV listing below will be your guide to see which finale is airing this week, thus happy watching.

As for the other things not entering the finale realm. MTV will have 2021’s MTV Movie & TV Awards at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 16th. This awards show will also be on Paramount+, plus MTV2, BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, Nick at Nite, Pop, TV Land, and VH1. (Wow, that’s a lot of options!) As for a quick rundown of the awards show itself, do know that the Disney+ series WandaVision has the most nominations for this year’s show with five, the talented Leslie Jones will be host, Nikki Glaser will host the Unscripted show on Monday at 9 p.m. on MTV, and Sacha Baron Cohen will get the Comedic Genius Award, while Scarlett Johansson will get the Generation Award, too.

The CW’s Superman & Lois is back, and the first season continues at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 18th.

Jumping to Friday, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. series debuts over on Hulu, and it is about the “Egomaniacal super villain struggles to maintain control of his evil organization after it is bought by a multinational tech company, all while juggling the needs of his demanding family.”

Amazon’s anthology series Solos also debuts this Friday morning, and it will focus on seven characteristic stories. For instance, “Each character will set off on a thrilling adventure in an uncertain future, and they’ll come to reckon that even during our most isolated moments, we are all connected through the human experience.” The cast list is pretty spectacular as it has Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Helen Mirren, Uzo Aduba, Anthony Mackie, Constance Wu, Dan Stevens, and Nicole Beharie. Thus, check it out and, hopefully, the series is a good one to watch.

Netflix’s The Neighbor says so long to its fans this (early) Friday morning. The streaming service will also be the place to watch Army of the Dead at home. The movie is about “A zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries takes the ultimate gamble by venturing into the quarantine zone for the greatest heist ever.” Army of the Dead is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, and Omari Hardwick.

In some recent television news, SEAL Team and Clarice series are moving to Paramount+ later this year. All Rise and The Unicorn from CBS were canceled after having two seasons, though. Also, Fox killed Prodigal Son

The Conners series was renewed for a fourth season by ABC, while The CW will soon be a network that broadcasts seven days a week as this move will expand the network’s primetime schedule.

For a final round of television news this week, season six will be the last for This is Us on NBC, Kiefer Sutherland will be returning to television in an espionage series on Paramount+, which at press time, does not have a title, Ms. Marvel series has wrapped up production in Thailand, and Grey’s Anatomy got renewed for season 18th by ABC.

That is all for this week! As always, please let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Our picks for the week are below.
