Next Week in TV 6/6: A Week Filled With Mischief, Thieves, and the Olympic Dream!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The week ahead is packed with exciting programming and special events which will shape the U.S. National team as we look ahead to this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The sporting action begins on Sunday with the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which features the best vying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Simone Biles is a heavy favorite with her sheer power and dazzling routines that always defy gravity. Thus, be prepared to be in awe as you watch each athlete push themselves to the limit.

Later this Sunday evening, Fear the Walking Dead returns after a week off due to the Memorial Day holiday break with a setup episode before the high stakes season finale, which kicks off a nuclear explosion. Subscribers to AMC+ will get early access to the season finale on Thursday, while non-subscribers got to wait until next Sunday.

Also, on Sunday evening is the second season of the suspense-filled War of the Worlds debuts on EPIX, and we are hopeful there will be some answers to the questions we had since the first season finale. We also recommend adding Domina, which debuts on EPIX Sunday evening, to your watch list. The series, set in ancient Rome, tells the story of a young woman who returns from exile to ascend to prominence.

Wednesday will be the day many Marvel fans will be looking forward to with the series premiere of Loki. Our favorite God of Mischief, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), is back but recruited by the Time Variance Authority to help fix the timeline. Owen Wilson and Gug Mbatha-Raw (Doctor WhoMI-5) round out the cast, and we would be surprised if there is a surprise cameo or two. So, bring on the mischief!

Also debuting Wednesday is the movie Awake on Netflix. It stars Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), and an event eliminates the ability for humans to sleep, and this lack of sleep sends the world into upheaval. (Good grief, talk about a bad case of sleep insomnia, no?) Anyway, her daughter, Matilda (Ariana Greenblatt), seems to be the only one capable of sleeping, and this sets them off on a journey to find answers while keeping her daughter safe.

Several seasons and series finales are airing this week. The Pose will come to a close Sunday with a two-hour series finale, and Queen of the South will wrap on Wednesday. New Amsterdam, The Good Doctor, and Hacks will also wrap up their seasons this week.

The Rebel series sees its season wrap up later this week, with rumors floating around the internet that the series is being shopped around to other networks and streaming platforms after being canceled by ABC.

If you are a fan of musicals, mark Friday on your calendar for the debut of In the Heights on HBO MAX. The blog thinks that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s latest movie-musical venture will be a delight for the entire family. The movie is based on the original Broadway play that starred Miranda, it is helmed by the popular star. The movie itself is about a particular area of New York’s Washington Heights and those that live there.

To wrap up the week, Saturday will feature the U.S. Olympic Team Diving trials. Fans of this sport can click here to check out NBC’s website to stay updated on the road to Tokyo.

All of the dates, times, and places on where to watch everything mentioned or airing soon, many can find the information in the listing below.

Lastly, Netflix is hosting a fandom event this week dubbed ‘Geeked Week,’ which will feature talent from the streamer’s most popular series and new announcements. Could we hear more about the second season of The Witcher or season three news for Umbrella Academy and Lost in Space? We are excited to learn more about what Netflix has planned. Do not forget to click here for our article on the event itself and to read additional details.
