Next Week in TV 6/27: Batwoman’s Season 2 Finale, Gundams Attack, and Time Travel Mayhem!

By Scott C. & DRWHO42

Summer is officially here, but with a vengeance in cooking the United States. Luckily, there is a way to escape the summer heat, like staying inside our homes, drinking a cold drink, and using that air conditioner. As such, our televisions will play a crucial role in helping us kill time.

The week ahead has a couple more Olympic trials to watch, like track and gymnastics. The action begins on June 27th (Sunday) at 7 p.m. ET on NBC. For hockey fans everywhere, Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals starts on June 30th at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC, and it features the Montreal Canadiens vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay is vying for back-to-back titles.

Backtracking to June 27th, at 9:00 p.m ET, The CW’s Batwoman series has its second season finale airing on this day for some more bat-fun. But do not worry Bat-fans, Batwoman herself will return in season three on October 13th, 2021.

On July 1st, the west says hello to the anime movie debut of Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway over on Netflix. Yep, it is time to see some mobile suits fight some more mobile suits-type action! Hathaway will be about Hathaway Noa leading an insurgency against the Earth Federation, but an enemy officer and a mysterious woman will alter those plans. The movie takes place after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, which had its Japanese theatrical debut on a lovely day of March 12th, 1988.

Do you like time travel stories? If so, Amazon Prime has a particular science fiction movie called The Tomorrow War. It premieres this Friday, July 2nd, and stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons. The film is about a few time travelers arriving from the future (2051) to warn that humanity is losing a major war against an alien species. So, the only hope for humanity is to transport people from the present to the future to fight some aliens. But perhaps a simple computer virus is all they need to win that future war?

You need some more input? Well, the listing below will be your guide to find out what else is airing soon on the small screen.

In some recent television news, actor Tom Welling has confirmed that he and Michael Rosenbaum are working on a Smallville sequel series, but animated. The CW, meanwhile, has given the green light for a Supernatural prequel series.

Filming has begun on the third and final season of His Dark Materials. The cast list also added Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Simon Harrison, and Chipo Chung.

Jonny Lee Miller will be joining The Crown for its fifth season in the role of John Major. The blog, however, doesn’t think he will need to hack the planet for that role.

Lastly, Netflix has said ‘no’ to picking up Manifest, which means it is probably the end for the series unless there is another streaming platform, or media network willing to pickup the series. According to Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva, Netflix was considered a very likely option home due to having the first two seasons on its platform for streaming and providing less work for Warner Bros. TV when tackling expired cast options, as well as going through digital rights.
